Crowds like this outside of EarthMed Medical Marijuana and Cannabis Dispensary in Addison were the norm on New Year’s Day—and the day after—as recreational cannabis sales became legal in Illinois on Jan. 1. People waited hours to get inside EarthMed, which is currently the only place in the area where people 21 and older can legally purchase marijuana. There are 46 venues throughout Illinois where cannabis can be purchased.
