Police Reports

The Elmhurst Police Department recently reported the following arrests and citations. Persons charged with domestic battery are not named in order to protect the privacy of victims. Readers are reminded that an arrest does not constitute a conviction, and that subjects are considered innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law. Juveniles age 17-or-younger are not named.

 

Criminal damage, criminal trespass, criminal defacement

 

May 21-May 22

A complainant at a car dealership in the 300 block of W. Grand told police at around 5:40 a.m. that he discovered 11 vehicles had their wheels and rims stolen and two vehicles had dents and damage. Total loss is approximately $28,000. An investigation is pending.

 

May 17

Police said while an officer was on patrol in the 100 block of W. Schiller Court at around 2:30 a.m., they observed a damaged pane of glass on a decorative wall. A plastic table was located across the alley from the damaged glass, and several 3-foot tall planters had been tipped over. An investigation is pending.

 

Domestic battery, domestic incident, disturbance

 

May 20

A victim in the 900 block of N. York told police at around 10:05 a.m. that he and the suspect were in a verbal argument that turned physical when the suspect allegedly struck him in the upper body and bit him on the tricep. A responding officer observed what appeared to be a bite mark on the victim’s arm. The suspect fled the area prior to police arrival. An investigation is pending.

 

May 17

A 21-year-old Elmhurst woman was charged with domestic battery in the 600 block of S. Washington at around 9:31 p.m. Police said a reporting officer spoke to the victim, who stated he had been involved in an argument with his wife. The victim stated the suspect pushed him and scratched the left side of his neck and used a baseball bat to damage the victim’s vehicle.

 

May 16

A complainant in the 700 block of Colfax told police at around 11:05 p.m. that a suspect broke a glass, threw food on him, struck him numerous times and slashed two of his car tires. The suspect left the scene prior to police arrival. An investigation is pending.

May 22

A complainant at Elmhurst Hospital told police at around 10:10 p.m. that the suspect stumbled to the emergency room desk, mumbled and swung his open hand at the complainant. The complainant did not wish to pursue assault charges. The suspect was served with a no-trespass notice.

 

May 18

Liam P. Herrera, 21, of Elmhurst, was charged with disorderly conduct-public intoxication in the 700 block of S. Swain at around 2:15 a.m.

May 22

Kimberly Winston-Ray, 51, of Chicago, was charged with DUI and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident subsequent to a traffic crash near York and Second at around 9:42 p.m.

 

May 21

Police said Nicole Konrad, 35, of Addison, was issued citations for a pedestrian under the influence and a pedestrian walking in the roadway after being located intoxicated in the roadway in the 400 block of W. Lake at around 2:15 a.m.

 

May 17

Charles Gammill, 30, of Elmhurst, was charged with DUI, leaving the scene of a property damage accident and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident in the 400 block of N. York at around 4:30 p.m.

 

Harassment, threats

 

May 20

A victim in the 500 block of Indiana told police at around 3:42 p.m. that between 3:17 and 3:42 p.m. she has received eight unwanted phone calls from a suspect. A reporting officer contacted the suspect and advised the suspect to cease all communications with the victim. The suspect stated she would comply.

 

Obstruction

 

May 21

Qushawn Hawkins, 24, of Chicago, was charged with obstructing identification, reckless driving, driving while license suspended, no child restraint, expired registration, disobeying a stop sign, no seat belt-driver and no seat belt-passenger subsequent to a reckless driving complaint near First and West at around 5:53 p.m. Police said Hawkins supplied the reporting officer with a false name.

 

May 18

Terron M. Smith, 24, of Chicago, was charged with obstructing identification, driving while license suspended, speeding, improper lane usage and no insurance, while Timothy E. Young, 21, also of Chicago, a passenger in the vehicle, was charged with possession of cannabis subsequent to a traffic stop near North and Melrose at around 1:01 a.m. Police said Smith stated he did not have his driver’s license with him, but during a search of the vehicle, Smith’s identification was located.

 

May 16

Police said that subsequent to a traffic stop near North and Villa at around 1:15 a.m., Timothy T. Washington Jr., 26, of Addison, provided an officer with a false name and a false date of birth. He was charged with obstructing identification, driving while license suspended, two counts of failure to secure a child under 8 in an appropriate child restraint system, no insurance and no seat belt.

 

Possession of cannabis, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a

controlled substance, possession of alternative nicotine product

 

May 22

Sarah Andejeski, 35, of Lake in the Hills, was charged with possession of cannabis, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving while license suspended, expired registration, improper display of registration and no insurance subsequent to a traffic stop near Willow and Columbia at around 4:11 p.m.

Christopher Avery, 31, of Chicago Ridge, was charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of more than 100 syringes, while Anthony Sanchez, 26, of Chicago, was charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia subsequent to investigating a suspicious vehicle in the 200 block of N. Addison at around 4:03 a.m. Police said Sanchez also was found to have a valid warrant from the Park Ridge Police Department. According to police, both suspects were found to be in possession of cocaine, heroin and drug paraphernalia.

Andy C. Fernandez, 22, of Elmwood Park, was issued a citation for possession of cannabis subsequent to an investigation of a suspicious vehicle in the 500 block of W. Grand at around 9:03 p.m.

 

May 21

Krystal Phillips, 31, of Glendale Heights, was issued a citation for possession of cannabis subsequent to a traffic stop near Route 83 and Fay at around 1:37 a.m.

 

May 20

Cherell Keeble, 27, of Cicero, was issued a citation for possession of cannabis, and Francisco Mendoza, 34, of Cicero, was issued citations for possession of cannabis, failure to signal and no insurance subsequent to a traffic stop near Lake and York at around 9:36 p.m.

 

Sale of tobacco to a minor

 

May 21

Subsequent to a tobacco compliance check, Elmhurst Police issued citations for sale of tobacco to a minor to the following: Joseph Bello, 50, of Addison, in the 1000 block of N. York at around 5:44 p.m.; Yadira Garcia, 22, of Wood Dale, in the 200 block of S. Route 83 at around 7:41 p.m.; Johnel Holmes, 25, of Oak Park, in the 200 block of E. Butterfield at around 5:09 p.m.; Dona Micic, 61, of Bensenville, in the 100 block of S. Route 83 at around 8:04 p.m.; Daniel Puschmann, 27, of Villa Park, in the 200 block of N. York at around 6:40 p.m.; Meghan Seymour, 22, of Cary, in the 100 block of S. York at around 7:11 p.m.; Donna Stachura, 62, of Elmwood Park, in the 900 block of S. York at around 5:49 p.m.; and Sharonda Ward, 24, of Maywood, in the 600 block of W. North at around 6:22 p.m.

 

Theft/burglary/attempted theft or burglary/identity theft/fraud/forgery/deceptive practice/obstruction/robbery

 

May 22

Burglary was reported in the 400 block of W. Lake at around 1:09 p.m. A victim told police that an unknown suspect entered his unattended, locked hotel room and removed a MacBook laptop and three pairs of jeans. Upon returning to his room, he found the door propped open. The victim advised that a co-worker also was missing items from the hotel room. A reporting officer spoke to the maid, who reported she cleaned the room at around noon and did not notice anything unusual.

Identity theft was reported in the 1-100 block of Elm Creek Drive at around 1:34 p.m. A property manager told police that the suspect is a current resident. The suspect is in the process of being evicted. The suspect reportedly presented a driver’s license with a false name, filled out an application and attempted to secure a new lease. The suspect left the scent and was unable to be located by responding officers.

Burglary was reported in the 400 block of W. Lake at around 5:43 p.m. A victim told police that an unknown suspect entered his locked, unattended hotel room and removed an Apple iPad Pro. The victim told police he left his room and upon returning, he found the door was propped open and his computer was missing.

 

May 21

Silvia De Serna, 51, of Addison, was charged with retail theft at a store in the 600 block of W. North at around 1:32 p.m. Police said De Serna removed $85 worth of merchandise from the store without paying for the items.

 

May 20-May 21

Police said officers responded to the 500 block of W. North at around 8:55 a.m. for the report of someone breaking into a business. The reporting officer spoke to an employee who stated she arrived in the morning and noticed the entry door to one of the offices had been forced open. A complainant noticed paperwork scattered on the floor and that a cabinet had pry marks on it but had not been opened. Nothing appeared to be missing at the time. In a similar incident in the 500 block of W. North at around 11:27 a.m., a reporting officer spoke to the manager of a business who stated a small box was knocked over, but no items were removed. Officers observed a pry mark on a doorframe; however, entry was not gained.

 

May 20

Identity theft was reported in the 100 block of Oak at around 12:47 p.m. A victim told police that made an unauthorized purchase on the victim’s credit card. An investigation is pending.

Burglary was reported in the 100 block of Elm at 1:37 p.m. An employee for the victim’s landscaping company told police that an unknown suspect removed a backpack-style leaf blower from an open trailer parked at a job site.

Forgery was reported at a store in the 200 block of S. Route 83 at around 2:34 p.m. Police said a suspect attempted to purchase $35 worth of merchandise using a counterfeit $100 bill. When the cashier went to check the bill with a manager, the suspect fled the store.

Identity theft was reported in the 500 block of W. St. Charles at around 3:13 p.m. A victim told police that an unknown suspect gained control of his business’ cell phone account. The victim cannot access control of the account. The name of the account has been changed. Numerous unauthorized charges have been placed on that account.

Theft was reported at 4:58 p.m. A victim told police that he purchased a pair of shoes on eBay. On the above date, he received confirmation the package had been delivered to his address. The victim reports the package was never delivered. The victim went to the post office and learned the package had been diverted and delivered to another address. A reporting officer went to the address and found the residence listed for sale. No package was located.

 

May 16-May 20

A victim told police at around 4:03 p.m. that she was contacted through Twitter by a suspect who offered to pay the victim an undisclosed amount of money per week to help with errands. The victim supplied the suspect with her bank account information so he could make deposits into the account. The suspect made three deposits. The credit union then locked the victim’s account due to fraudulent activity. The victim has been locked out of her account and is unsure if she has sustained any financial loss at this time.

May 18

A victim in the 100 block of N. York told police at around 9:09 p.m. that he forgot his backpack containing his wallet inside a restaurant. When he returned to get the backpack, the wallet was missing.

Theft was reported at a store in the 100 block of E. Schiller at around 10:46 p.m. A victim told police that an unknown suspect committed a short-change scam, asking a clerk to make change several times. The suspect left the store and entered an unknown vehicle. The victim reports being short an unknown amount of dollars.

 

May 17

Identity theft was reported in the 400 block of W. Alexander at around 6:34 p.m. A victim told police that an unknown suspect gained access to his bank account. The victim contacted Comerica Bank and cancelled his card. A new card was issued to him but he never received it at his address. The victim checked his account and noticed that an unknown suspect made two withdrawals, which were made at unknown ATMs.

 

Dec. 6, 2018-May 17

Theft was reported in the 100 block of Oak. A reporting officer spoke with a victim who stated he entered a written agreement with the suspect for installation of 18 windows. The victim made a deposit for the installation of the windows; however, the suspect never completed the work. The suspect stated he was shutting down his business and would refund the money, but never did so.

 

May 16

An agent at a store in the 300 block of S. Route 83 told police at around 4:08 p.m. that a suspect took $112.32 worth of health and beauty products and fled the store without paying for the merchandise. The store’s loss prevention officer attempted to detain the suspect in the parking lot. The suspect returned a partial amount of the stolen merchandise. The suspect entered her car and backed out of the parking space without regard for the complainant who was standing behind the vehicle. The suspect fled north on Route 83.

Identity theft was reported in the 500 block of S. York at around 8:30 p.m. Police said an unknown suspect entered the Elmhurst branch of a U.S. Bank and withdrew cash from the victim’s bank account. The suspect also attempted a similar withdrawal from the Northlake branch but was denied. The victim contacted U.S. Bank to report the fraud. An investigation is pending.

Burglary to a vehicle was reported in the 200 block of N. York at around 6:29 p.m. A victim told police that she parked her vehicle in a parking lot in the above location. When she returned to her vehicle, she noticed that an unknown suspect removed a black tote bag containing a laptop computer and computer peripherals from the vehicle. There were no signs of forced entry to the vehicle. The victim is not sure if she had locked the vehicle after parking it.

 

May 15

A victim at a nail salon in the 500 block of N. York told police at around 3:22 a.m. that two suspects received services totaling $265, but the suspect’s credit card was declined. One of the suspects went outside to get money from the car. The second suspect, described as either a white or Hispanic female with a lighter complexion, curly brown hair, wearing a blue sweater, shorts and a tattoo of the letter A on both hands near her thumbs, pushed the victim to the ground took the tip money and cash from the register drawer, and fled to a waiting vehicle (possibly a blue or black Scion). An investigation is pending.
