FLORENCE M. VOLZ
Florence M. Volz, nee Cusac, age 84, of Lombard, died May 24 at Central DuPage Hospital.
Florence was the loving wife of the late James A.; loving mother of Cynthia L. (Richard) Kowalski of Villa Park, Deborah (Michael) Selvitella of Bartlett, Michael A. (Cathy) of Lake in the Hills, Jeffery (Deborah) of Naperville and Daniel J. (Denise) of Bolingbrook; 15 grandchildren; great-grandmother of 8; sister of Marie Cusac of Minonk, IL, and Charlie Cusac of Rutland, IL; many nieces and nephews and other relatives.
Florence was a homemaker. She had lived in Lombard for 53 years prior to moving to Lisle two years ago. She was a bowler in various leagues. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Florence was an avid Cubs, Bulls and Bears fan. She was a former volunteer cheerleading coach at Sacred Heart.
Florence grew up in Rutland, Illinois, and was a graduate of Rutland High School.

DOROTHY WEIGAND
Dorothy Weigand (nee Stein) of Lombard, died Sunday, May 5. Beloved wife of the late Roy Weigand and is survived by her children, Janice (Norm) Brown, Jeanette (Chris) Erb and Doug (AnnMarie); six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and six nieces and nephews.
Dorothy grew up in the Portage Park neighborhood of Chicago and loved living in the city with her parents and brother. After graduation from Foreman High School, she went on to study business and secretarial classes. Dorothy became an executive secretary working for insurance and fire extinguisher companies till she had their first child and then was home and volunteering for her children’s school, church, and scouts. She also was a member of the Elmhurst Hospital Guild and part of a neighborhood garden club.
When Roy and Dorothy opened Weigand Lumber of West Chicago she managed the office, billing and payroll, and was the secretary. They were a great team.
She loved gardening and was proud of her beautiful flower gardens. She was an avid reader, especially of English and Scottish history. She was a caregiver of multiple family members. She also drove neighbors who needed weekly shopping help, rides to doctor appointments, occasional meal help, and more, all while working full-time and with three children still at home.
Special nights out would find Dorothy and Roy dancing at O’Henry, later Willowbrook. They also enjoyed travel to the western states, national parks, Canada, a special trip to Germany and Belgium, and to many of Roy’s naval reunions.
A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, June 1, from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Hatfield Hall of First Church of Lombard, 220 S. Main St., Lombard; and a brief service will be held at 12:30 p.m. in the adjacent historic Maple Street Chapel.
