‘Space Food’ program at Villa Park Library
The Adler Planetarium’s Michelle Nichols will present “Space Food: Past, Present & Future” at the Villa Park Public Library on Thursday, May 30, from 7-8:30 p.m. Nichols will discuss different types of space foods from the past, present and future. Birthday Brunch and Lunch in Villa Park
Villa Park Recreation hosts a monthly luncheon for area seniors. Birthday Bunch and Lunch is held the second Thursday of the month from noon to 2 p.m. at the Community Recreation Building, 320 E. Wildwood. Area seniors are invited to join in the celebration, which features a buffet lunch, desserts, bingo with prizes (non-monetary), contests and other fun activities. The group sings “Happy Birthday” to those celebrating their special day the month they attend. The all-inclusive fee is $6 per person, payable at the door. Call 630-834-8525 to RSVP. Driver services offices closed for Memorial Day
Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White announced that all Monday through Friday offices and facilities will be closed on Monday, May 27, in observance of Memorial Day. In addition, all Tuesday through Saturday Driver Services facilities will be closed on Saturday, May 25. All office and facilities will be open for business on Tuesday, May 28. Individuals can visit the secretary of state’s website, www.cyberdriveillinois.com, to locate the nearest Driver Services facility and the hours of operation. In addition, drivers can change an address, register to become an organ and tissue donor or renew license plate stickers online.
Family Field Day at St. James Farm June 1
Welcome summer at the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County’s fun-filled, family-oriented Family Field Day on Saturday, June 1, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at St. James Farm Forest Preserve in Warrenville. See ongoing horse and riding demonstrations; dog obedience and field trials, sheepherding demonstrations, a dairy exhibit featuring cows from Kline Creek Farm in West Chicago, and reptiles from Willowbrook Wildlife Center in Glen Ellyn. Enjoy pony and hay-wagon rides, fishing, archery instruction, food vendors and live music featuring Truman’s Ridge and Ashley Lewis. Visit with Forest Preserve District rangers and St. James Farm staff and volunteers as well.

Village offices closed for Memorial Day
The Lombard Village Hall and Village Offices will be closed on Monday, May 27, in observance of the Memorial Day Holiday. Offices will reopen for regular hours on Tuesday, May 28. Regular village office hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Vintage Auto Fest June 1
The 6th Annual Glen Ellyn Vintage Auto Fest is Saturday, June 1, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at historic Stacy’s Corners, 800 N. Main St. Admission is free to visitors attending the show. Activities for the fest include lunch catered by Heavenly Hot Dogs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Bake Sale by member/bakers of the GEHS from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Local Packard, Studebaker and Cadillac Club members are attending and all vintage, antique and classic vehicles and clubs are welcome. Tiny T-ball with York Center Park District
All participants ages 4-5 will be taught the fundamentals of T-ball such as catching, throwing, base running and teamwork. The children will learn batting skills by hitting a rag ball off a tee. All children will receive a t-shirt but must provide their own mitt. There will be an awards presentation and picnic at the end of the season. Each parent will supply a team snack once during the season, and a list will be handed out on the first day. We try our best to accommodate roster and team suggestions, but due to the number of children we cannot guarantee all requests. Villa Park Summer Camps
Villa Park Parks and Recreation is accepting registration for Summer Camp for kids ages 5-12. Summer Camp runs 10 weeks from June 3 to Aug. 9 and meets daily 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Iowa Community Center, 338 N. Iowa. You can register children for all 10 weeks, by the week or by the day. Register your camper for all 10 weeks of camp by May 28 and pay your fees in two installments. If a camper needs to extend their camp day Sunrise and Sunset Camps are available for additional fees. Camp is packed with outdoor adventures, arts and crafts, games, sports, fishing, cookouts, special events, weekly field trips and afternoons at Jefferson Pool. All activities are included in the camp fee. Each week of camp has a different theme that is celebrated on Theme Fridays. Memorial Day program at 10 a.m. in Lombard
The Village of Lombard will host its annual Memorial Day Ceremony on Monday, May 27, at 10 a.m. in the Sunken Gardens, Lombard Common Park, located just east of the intersection of Grace and Maple streets. Note the time change for the 2019 event. The ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. Veterans of the Armed Services, local scouts and residents are invited to attend.
Opening day activities for Jefferson Pool
It’s almost pool season so mark your calendar for Villa Park Recreation’s Summer Splash Bash event on Saturday, June 1, from 1-3 p.m. at Jefferson Pool, 341 N. Harvard Ave. Bring the family out on the pool’s opening day and enjoy an afternoon of fun games, dance competitions and swim races. You’ll enjoy music and entertainment by Coach Josh and DJ Superman. Food will be provided by Michael Anthony’s. All children must be accompanied by an adult. This all-ages event is free for season pool pass holders. No pool pass? No problem. You can still take part in the fun by paying the daily admission fee of $7 residents/$9 non-residents.
Memorial Day program at Kline Creek Farm
Observe Memorial Day with a ceremony rooted in the history and traditions of the late 1800s at “Memorial Day Remembered” on Monday, May 27, from 1:30-3:30 p.m. at Kline Creek Farm, 1N600 County Farm Road in West Chicago. This year Kline Creek Farm will partner with the West Chicago City Museum for the free family-friendly program. Sara Phalen, the museum’s executive director, will share stories recorded by West Chicago men who served during the Civil War. Registration is not required for Memorial Day Remembered. Everyone can have a reading experience that is out of this world with the 2019 Summer Reading Program at the Villa Park Public Library.
