The District 45 PTA Council held its 11th annual Just for Fun 5K Run and Kids’ 1-mile Fun Run on Saturday morning. The races started and ended near the Rugaard Gazebo along the Illinois Prairie Path. Nearly 100 people signed up for the 5-kilometer race. Both races wrapped up before rain, sleet and snow arrived. One photo shows Jackson Middle School eighth-graders (left to right) Alyssa McKenna, Mehervaan Heneghan and Anna Seelbach playing the Star-Spangled Banner before the 5-kilometer race. A photo from the start of the race shows participants heading eastbound on the path. District 45 parent David Slinn (bib No. 379) finished first in the 5-kilometer race. Syd Carl (bib No. 326), a fifth-grader at Ardmore Elementary School, placed second. Another photo shows the start of the kids race, with the contestants heading west on the path. Athan Scheeler (bib No. 370), a second-grader at Stevenson Elementary School, won the 1-mile race for the second straight year. Close behind was Emily Luther (bib No. 328), a second-grader at Ardmore School.
