UCCA Taste of the Town

From 6-10 p.m. at the Wilder Mansion, UCCA is holding its third annual Taste of the Town: Food for Life. There are 17 Elmhurst restaurants currently participating. Food tastings will take place from 7-8:30 p.m. Proceeds will benefit United Community Concerns Association. Tickets are $60 in advance and $70 at the door, and can be purchased online at ucca-elmhurst.org or by mail at UCCA, 125 W. Church St, Elmhurst.

Thursday, May 16

From 6-8 p.m. at Elmhurst City Hall, 209 No. York, a group known as PlanRoute 83.org is hosting a public forum for input from the communities around Illinois Route 83. Free and open to all.

 

Friday, May 17

From 7 to 9 p.m., there will be an artist’s reception at the Elmhurst Artist Guild gallery inside the Elmhurst Art Museum located in Wilder Park. It will feature the art of Charlene Lee-Freislinger and her works in graphite, pen and ink, watercolor, acrylic, collage, and photography.

 

Saturday, May 18

  • Crestview Garden Club’s 40th annual plant sale from 8:30 a.m.–1 p.m. at The Abbey located at 407 W. St. Charles Rd., rain OR shine. A wide variety of sun and shade perennials, herbs, ground covers, some annuals, natives PLUS plants to attract birds, bees, hummingbirds and butterflies. A portion of plant sales support community projects. Will accept checks, cash and major credit cards.   • The Spring Road Pet Parade will take place beginning at Silverado Grill at 11:30 a.m. with pet adoptions, pet portraits, blessing of the pets, vendors, concession stands, etc. At 1 p.m., the parade steps off at 1 p.m. and returns to Silverado, where the day continues with pet tricks, awards and the announcement of the winners of the Elmhurst Library’s Best Pet Essay contest. Sunday, May 19

Elmhurst Museum Day takes place from 1-5 p.m. at all museums in the community including Elmhurst History Museum, Elmhurst Art Museum and the Lizzadro Museum of Lapidary Art. Jump on board the Explore Elmhurst trolley to visit three Elmhurst museums for free admission, family-friendly activities, exhibit tours, refreshments and more. Sunday, June 2

At 2 p.m. in the Education Center, the Elmhurst History Museum will host When the World Came to Chicago: The 1893 Columbian Exposition. The World’s Columbian Exposition is often credited with putting Chicago on the map, and citizens have long been fascinated with the spectacle of this amazing fair that welcomed more than 27 million visitors. Al Walavich, a lifelong Chicagoan, architectural tour guide, local historian, and collector will share stories about the planning, construction, and celebration of the fair along with his personal collection of photos and memorabilia. Saturday, June 15

At 10 a.m., Elmhurst Senior Commission and the City of Elmhurst present another Community Conversation about the Park District’s Vision 2020 Plan, particularly the plan of a new Senior Center, led by Jim Rogers, executive director of the Elmhurst Park District. Held at Elmhurst City Hall, 209 North York Rd. Free but reservations are required, as space is limited. To register, call 630-306-7077

 

Ongoing programs:

The Elmhurst Artists’ Guild (EAG) will host A Myriad of Media, a solo exhibition fea-turing the art of Charlene Lee-Freislinger. The show will feature works in graph-ite, pen and ink, watercolor, acrylic, collage, and photog-raphy. The show runs now through June 7 in the EAG Gallery at the Elmhurst Art Museum (EAM), in Elmhurst’s Wilder Park.

  • Widows or Widowers (WOW) meet every third Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 537 S. York Road.   • The Elmhurst American Legion, T.H.B. Post No. 187, hosts a fish fry every Friday night from 6-8:30 p.m. New York steaks are available first Friday of the month. Musical entertainment follows.
