The Elmhurst Police Department recently reported the following arrests and citations. Persons charged with domestic battery are not named in order to protect the privacy of victims. Readers are reminded that an arrest does not constitute a conviction, and that subjects are considered innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law. Juveniles age 17-or-younger are not named.

April 4
A victim in the 100 block of N. Palmer told police at around 4:05 p.m. that an unknown suspect scratched the side of his car while it was parked and unattended in the City Centre parking lot. The damage was caused by a key or other sharp object. An investigation is pending.

April 1
A complainant near Third and Emory told police at around 3:01 p.m. that she witnessed a subject urinate in a park and run westbound from the scene. The area was checked with no results. Later that day, another witness advised that a suspect described as a black male wearing a black jacket and a gray-blue knit cap, exposed himself near the downtown area. The suspect was standing near a white work van before leaving the scene southbound. Video surveillance from the surrounding businesses was reviewed with negative results.

April 9
A victim in the 300 block of W. Montrose told police at around 8 p.m. that the suspect was drinking heavily during the day. When the victim attempted to leave the house for the evening, the suspect allegedly struck the victim. An investigation is pending.
April 7
A 37-year-old Elmhurst man was charged with two counts of domestic battery and interference with reporting of a domestic in the 100 block of E. Lake at around 11:14 p.m. Police said the victim and the suspect were verbally arguing. The suspect allegedly attempted to grab the phone away from the victim, while he was calling 911. During the interaction the offender allegedly scratched the victim on the left side of his face and under his left arm.
April 6
A 28-year-old Elmhurst man was charged with domestic battery in the 400 block of W. St. Charles at around 12:37 a.m. Police said officers responded to a report of a disturbance at the above location. Officers observed the suspect reportedly forcibly attempt to remove an item from the victim’s hands twice.
April 4
A victim in the 100 block of N. York told police at around 8:29 p.m. that he and the suspect were at a pub earlier in the evening. After consuming one alcoholic beverage, the suspect reportedly became verbally aggressive toward the victim. The victim left the pub on foot. The suspect followed the victim and allegedly battered him. The victim does not wish to pursue complaints.

Terrance Burdine, 40, of Chicago, was charged with illegal transportation of open alcohol, driving while license revoked, improper parking in the roadway and no insurance subsequent to an investigation of a disabled vehicle near North and Addison at around 1:08 a.m.
April 7
Israel Ascencio-Damian, 35, of Joliet, was charged with DUI and disobeying a traffic control device subsequent to a traffic stop near York and Second at around 1:54 a.m.
Bryan Juarez Yoc, 24, of Bensenville, was charged with DUI, illegal transportation of alcohol, leaving the scene of a property damage accident, no valid driver’s license and improper lane usage in the 500 block of E. Grand at around 3 a.m. Police said the suspect fled the scene on foot and was later located and taken into custody.
April 6
Daniel Bischof, 32, of Villa Park, was charged with DUI and improper lane usage subsequent to a complaint of erratic driving near Route 83 and 22nd Street at around 5:32 p.m.
Kendrick Johnson, 35, of Carol Stream, was charged with DUI, illegal transportation of alcohol, resisting arrest, leaving the scene of an accident and improper lane usage near First and York at around 1:38 a.m.
April 5
Benjamin Mott, 50, of Elmhurst, was charged with DUI and squealing tires in the 600 block of S. Parkside at around 2:46 a.m. Police said that while conducting a burglary to a vehicle investigation, officers observed a vehicle drive toward them at a high rate of speed, quickly brake, and then accelerate again at a high rate of speed squealing the vehicle’s tires. According to police, the vehicle pulled into a driveway and a traffic stop was conducted, Mott was found to be driving under the influence of alcohol and was placed under arrest.

Alaa Zamat, 35, of Orland Park, was charged with obstructing identification and driving while license revoked, while Emma Lorenzo, 24, of Cicero, a passenger in the vehicle, was issued a citation for possession of cannabis near West and Second at around 5:01 p.m. Police said Zamat provided officers with a false name.

Noel A. Pinnock, 20, of Maywood, was issued citations for possession of cannabis and no rear registration plate light subsequent to a traffic stop near St. Charles and Berkley at around 1:20 a.m.
April 10
Reinaldo Feliz-Rivera, 30, of Addison, was issued citations for possession of cannabis, possession of drug paraphernalia and expired registration subsequent to a traffic stop near Grand and Industrial at around 4:22 p.m.
Andrew Klimara, 23, of Chicago, was issued citations for possession of cannabis and possession of drug paraphernalia, while Jeffrey A. Worden, 23, of Chicago, was issued a citation for possession of cannabis subsequent to an investigation of a suspicious vehicle in the 1000 block of N. York at around 12:04 a.m.
April 9
Police said that subsequent to a report of suspicious person who was disoriented near Virginia and Crown at around 2:24 p.m., the supsect was located and appeared to be highly intoxicated. The suspect was found to be in possession of Xanax® and was released without charges pending lab results.
Police said a suspect in the 400 block of E. Vallette came into the police station at around 6:11 p.m. to report that her roommate sent her a text message containing a suicidal statement. Officers and medics responded to the address for a check on well-being. While at the residence, the suspect admitted to possessing Acetaminophen and Hydrocodone Bitartrate pills without a prescription. The suspect was arrested and transported to the police station for processing. The pills were sent to the crime lab and the suspect was released pending lab results.
April 8
Jennifer Huerta, 26, of Chicago, was issued citations for possession of cannabis, possession of drug paraphernalia, improper lane usage and no insurance subsequent to a traffic stop near York and I-290 at around 1:54 p.m.
Rafael Mallory, 21, of Bellwood, was charged with possession of cannabis, possession of drug paraphernalia, no valid driver’s license and no insurance subsequent to a traffic stop for a passenger not wearing a seat belt near North and Route 83 at around 3:46 p.m.
April 6
Marco Mack, 29, of Hillside, was issued citations for possession of drug paraphernalia and tinted windows subsequent to a traffic stop near St. Charles and Cottage Hill at around 10:34 a.m.
April 5
Christian Bernal, 19, of Wood Dale, was charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia, while Julia Martinelli, 21, of Elgin, was charged with possession of a controlled substance subsequent to an investigation of a suspicious vehicle near Roosevelt and Summit at around 6:50 p.m. Police said both suspects were found to be in possession of heroin.
Antonio Ibarra, 21, of Cicero, was charged with possession of cannabis, possession of drug paraphernalia and illegal window tint subject to a traffic stop near Church and Lake at around 12:43 p.m., while Rodolfo Salgado, 18, of Cicero, a passenger in the vehicle, was charged with possession of cannabis and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Tanya Mora, 31, of Chicago, was charged with possession of cannabis subsequent to a suspicious parked vehicle in the 500 block of W. Grand at around 11:57 p.m.
Robert Ozon, 19, of Park Ridge, was issued citations for possession of cannabis and possession of drug paraphernalia subsequent to a traffic stop near Route 83 and I-290 at around 11:08 p.m.

April 10
A victim in the 200 block of S. Route 83 told police at around 12 noon, as she was walking in the parking lot of Elmhurst Commons, she observed an unknown suspect exposing himself while seated in his vehicle. The suspect left the area prior to police arrival. Officers checked the area but were unable to locate the offender. The complainant did not want to sign complaints.

April 9
A complainant in the 200 block of Oakland Grove told police at around 12:36 a.m. that his neighbor advised him that a white SUV pulled into his driveway, close to his garage, and began changing a tire. When the suspects were
confronted, they identified themselves as painters who were hired by the homeowner. No painters had been contacted to work on his home. An investigation is pending.

April 9
A victim in the 600 block of N. York told police at around 11:49 a.m. that after returning from shopping at a local store, she did not have her purse. The victim was contacted by a store in Glenview, which related that an unknown male suspect returned the purse to that location. The victim recovered her purse which was missing cash and a debit card. The victim returned to the store in Elmhurst where store video was reviewed. Video surveillance of the parking lot showed the victim left her purse in a shopping cart. An unidentified elderly male subsequently took the purse out of the shopping cart and put it in his car.
March 31-April 9
A victim in the 400 block of n. Elm told police at around 4:42 p.m. that she booked a vacation rental with VRBO, made a payment, and subsequently learned from VRBO that the listing posted on its website was fraudulent. VRBO reimbursed the victim. The suspect contacted the victim looking for an additional payment and the victim declined. The victim has since received numerous lewd text messages indicating her phone number was posted to a pornographic website.
April 8
Theft was reported in the 100 block of S. Prospect at around 10:30 a.m. A victim told police that he left his phone in the bathroom of the Elmhurst Library. When he returned to retrieve his phone, it was no longer there. The phone is described as an AT&T GoPhone Model flip phone.
April 7
Alejandra Merios, 46, of Franklin Park, was charged with one felony count of retail theft and misdemeanor retail theft at a store in the 300 block of S. Route 83 at around 4:59 p.m. Police said a reporting officer met with loss prevention who stated that Merios had been seen taking merchandise and switching price tags.
Identity theft was reported in the 600 block of Lorraine at around 5;35 p.m. A victim told police that an unknown suspect(s) used his personal information to apply for two credit cards, three checking accounts and two money market accounts. The victim is not out any money, but would like to sign complaints if the suspect is located.
April 5
Attempted residential burglary was reported in the 400 block of S. Washington at around 8:52 p.m. A victim told police that upon arriving home, he observed a suspect described as a black male around 5’8”, 165 pounds, wearing a black jacket with a black knit style cap and dark-colored jeans in the backyard near his patio door. The suspect then walked into the neighbor’s yard and was unable to be located. The victim noticed one of the two double French doors was damaged at the door lock mechanism with the frame pried loose. It did not appear entry was gained and nothing was missing from the home. The area was checked for the suspect with no results.
Burglary to a vehicle was reported in the 800 block of S. Parkside at around 2:16 a.m. A victim told police that at around 2 a.m., he heard his garage door open. The victim ran outside and observed a white in color SUV speed off. The unknown suspect entered his unlocked Jeep in the driveway, taking the garage door opener, a wallet and a pair of sunglasses. Nothing was missing from the garage.
Burglary to a vehicle was reported in the 200 block of E. Wilson at around 8:19 a.m. A victim told police that an unknown suspect(s) entered her unlocked vehicle while it was parked overnight in her driveway. The victim discovered the driver’s door slightly propped open, her center console and glove box opened, and miscellaneous paperwork lying on the floor. The victim stated she was missing her garage remote and a canvas jacket.
Identity theft was reported in the 400 block of E. Butterfield at around 12:47 p.m. A victim told police that he received a call from his bank alerting him that an unknown suspect was attempting to access his account. The unknown suspect(s) also attempted to open an Amazon Credit Card using the victim’s information, but was unsuccessful. The victim contacted the credit bureaus and was advised to file a police report.
March 18
Identity theft was reported in the 400 block of Alexander Blvd. at around 12 noon. A victim told police that she was contacted by a collection agency attempting to collect a debt for a gas company. She advised that an unknown suspect used her personal information to open a fraudulent account.
Identity theft was reported in the 100 block of W. Virginia at around 2:17 p.m. A victim told police that she received a call from an unknown suspect who claimed to be with the IRS. The suspect advised that the victim was a suspect in a crime which was committed in Texas and she needed to withdraw cash from her account to purchase a Google Play card. The victim transferred cash to a Google Play card, provided the suspect with the activation number and provided her Social Security number.
Nov. 12, 2017
Fraud was reported in the 700 block of Geneva. A victim told police that they paid the suspect in 2017 as a down payment for siding replacement on the victim’s house. The suspect told the victim work would begin in the spring of 2018, but the suspect never started the project. The suspect informed the victim he is in bankruptcy and would not be paying the victim back.

April 8
Police said that subsequent to a traffic stop near Lake and Grand at around 8:11 p.m., William Morataya, 46, of Bloomingdale, was found to have a revoked FOID card and a suspended driver’s license. According to police, Morataya admitted to being in possession of a firearm and ammunition. He was charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, violation of the FOID Card Act, unlawful possession of ammunition, operating an electronic communication device while driving, an unlawful rear registration plate light and obstructed driver’s view.

Identity theft was reported in the 700 block of N. Eastland at around 3:11 p.m. A victim told police that an unknown suspect(s) gained access to her credit accounts and changed her personal information and attempted to withdraw funds from several of the victim’s accounts. The unknown suspects were able to withdraw cash from two separate accounts and opened a Samsung Financial account in the victim’s name.
