The 2019 District 45 Fine Arts Showcase took place on Saturday, March 9, at Schafer Elementary School. The showcase featured art created during art classes by students from all eight district schools. Art teachers from each school selected the pieces for display in the showcase. One of the event’s featured pieces was the Mindfulness Mosaic created by students at North Elementary School in Villa Park. Each class (first- through fifth-grade) made an item for the mosaic, which will hang in the hallway at North School. District 45 Superintendent Anthony Palmisano honored some of the showcase pieces with a Superintendent’s Selection honor. Those pieces will be displayed in a District 45 art gallery. John Epple, Willowbrook High School’s art department chair, also visited the showcase. At a recent teachers institute day, Epple and District 45 art teachers put together a Rising Stars program. As part of that program, Epple selected some pieces from Saturday’s showcase. Those creations from the young artists—or rising stars—will be displayed at Willowbrook’s upcoming art show in April.
