IC Catholic Prep’s David Vargas qualified for state out of the Class 1A Pontiac sectional.
Vargas took third at 220 pounds and will bring a 28-6 record into the Class 1A state meet this weekend in Champaign.
In Pontiac, Vargas received a first-round bye and then won his next match via pinfall in 2:56 before losing 1-0 to the eventual sectional champion. Vargas came back through the wrestleback bracket and recorded a win via fall in 3:38 and then pinned his foe in the third-place match in 1:49.
