Two IC Catholic Prep boys golfers moved one step away from a berth in the state meet.
The Knights competed in the recent Class 1A Walther Christian regional at White Pines in Bensenville. IC Catholic Prep was fifth out of eight teams with a 371 team score. The Knights were 14 shots behind the last team-qualifying slot.
Thomas Hilgart shot 84, while Louis Narcisi had a 93. Michael Carpanzano shot 96 and Michael Hilgart shot 98.
Thomas Hilgart and Narcisi advanced as individuals to the sectional round. Those two played earlier this week in the Class 1A Oregon sectional at Silver Ridge Golf Course where berths in the state meet were on the line.
“A disappointing day,” said IC Catholic Prep coach Don Sujack. “We played well at conference (two weeks ago) and expected similar results at regionals. While it is nice to advance Thomas and Louis as individuals, we collectively didn’t play to our capabilities. On the plus side, it should provide some off-season motivation for the underclassmen and they can cheer on their teammates at sectionals.”
The Knights also played in the Elmhurst Classic against York and Timothy Christian. The event features a two-man scramble format with each team posting three scores. York won the event with a 2-under-par score of 106. The Knights were second at 6-over 114 and Timothy took third at 7-over 115.
“It’s always a fun event coming right on the heels of regionals,” said Sujack. “I think the boys enjoy the opportunity to tee it up competitively in such a relaxed atmosphere and the coaches get to catch up with each other on the results of regionals.”
