Edwin E. Sprandel, of Elmhurst, formerly of Oak Park, passed away recently at the age of 92. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during WWII and Korea. Beloved husband of the late Susan E., nee Simpson; fond father of Susan (Steven) Shaffer, James (Kathleen) Sprandel and Paul (Judy) Sprandel; grandfather of seven; brother of Ralph H. Sprandel and brother -in-law of Tim (Diane) Simpson. Active member of Elmhurst College and Community. Philanthropy and volunteerism were at the core of Ed Sprandel’s life and few benefitted more from his generous gifts than Elmhurst College, which honored him with the college’s Founders’ Medal in 2015.
The family would like to thank Ed’s wonderful nurses, especially Mary, Beth and Donna and a big thanks especially to his caregivers, Alan and Nielo for their exceptional care.
A Memorial Service was held in Buik Chapel on the campus of Elmhurst College, on Friday, October 19, 2018. Private Interment Mount Emblem Cemetery.
