The Elmhurst Community Unit School District 205 Board held a meeting on Aug. 28 at the District 205 Center, 162 S. York St. All seven board members attended the meeting, which lasted about 35 minutes.

Numerous donations accepted, recognized

Board members voted unanimously to accept several gifts to district schools. Those gifts included a donation from Guaranteed Rate in Elmhurst of 1,000 inflatable noisemakers and 200 mini footballs. Those items, which have a total value of about $1,500, will be handed out to the student section at this season’s home football games at York High School.

The board also unanimously approved two donations from the Field School PTA. One donation, in an amount not to exceed $7,000, will be used to purchase a projector for the Field School’s auditorium. The other donation of $4,000 will support a variety of staff requests, including digital magazine subscriptions, a microphone stand and clips, walkie-talkies and resources for classroom libraries.

The board also approved a donation of about $2,000 from the Edison School PTA, which will be used to renovate the staff lounge. The donation would pay for items including a refrigerator, a dining table and two lounge chairs.

Technology services manager hours extended

Board members also voted unanimously during the meeting to extend the contracted hours with EZ Tech Connect, LLC, for the services of a technology services manager on an interim, part-time basis for up to 80 additional hours at a cost of $75 per hour, not to exceed $6,000 in additional costs. In July, the board approved contracting with EZ Tech Connect, LLC for the services of a technology services manager on an interim, part-time basis at a cost of $75 per hour, not to exceed $13,200, to help complete summer projects. The district held two rounds of interviews in July for a full-time technology services manager. No hiring offer was made after those interviews. Interviews with a new set of candidates are being arranged. The services of EZ Tech Connect will reach the $13,200 mark this month. The approval of up to 80 additional hours of part-time services will allow for support service through the end of September, until a permanent technology support services manager is hired. The cost is reportedly more than offset by a savings of nearly $30,000 in salary and benefits, assuming about 70 workdays with a full-time vacancy.

The board will hold its next regular meeting on Sept. 11.
