- At 7 p.m., the City’s Zoning and Planning Commission will hold a public hearing to consider the City’s Draft Subarea Plans at City Hall, 209 N. York Street. The city has determined that five subareas should be updated and the public is invited to provide input to help decision-makers provide the best services, direct growth, and maintain infrastructure for the areas.
- At 7 p.m., the Crestview Garden Club will feature Trish Beckjord, manager of the Conservation Foundation’s Fox River Initiative, with “Creating an Attractive, (Certifiable!) Bird-Friendly Garden with an emphasis on using native trees and shrubs.” Sponsored by Midwest Groundcovers, she will share how to create an attractive, multi-functional garden that will provide year-round support and make your garden a haven for birds and butterflies. - At 10:30 a.m., the Lizzadro Museum presents Rock & Mineral Identification led by
Geologist Sara Johnson. Learn identify minerals through basic hands on identification, including observation skills and hardness tests. Great for rockhounds and Scouts. Adult supervision is required. For ages 8 to adult.

Sunday, Oct. 7
At 3 p.m. at Elmhurst Christian Reformed Church, the Elmhurst Symphony Orchestra will perform in concert featuring Soprano Michele Areyzaga. The concert, “Bernstein Spectacular,” will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the legendary composer and conductor’s birth. Tickets are $35 for adults, $32 for seniors, and $12 for students. Heritage Day returns to the Churchville One-Room Schoolhouse and at Fischer Farm in Bensenville. A full slate of family-friendly activities are scheduled from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. at Churchville Schoolhouse and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at Fischer Farm.
Admission is free at both locations. All activities are free at Churchville Schoolhouse, and a $6 wristband is available at the Fischer Farm for select kids’ activities. A tractor-pulled hay wagon will be available to transport visitors between each site. Info: 630-833-1457 or elmhursthistory.org.

From 6-8:30 p.m., the Elmhurst History Museum and the Bensenville Park District present a haunted tour at historic Fischer Farm followed by a hayride to Churchville Schoolhouse to learn postmortem photography, Victorian mourning traditions, and 1870s cemetery symbols. Enjoy a lantern-lit walk through Churchville Cemetery and Fischer Woods back to the farm for tours, ghost stories around the campfire with hot cider and S’mores. NOTE: Must be age 14 or older to participate. Participants must be able to traverse uneven terrain in low light and must sign a waiver. Fee: $25 per person. From 1-3 p.m., the Elmhurst Art Museum is holding a panel discussion in conjunction with The McCormick House and the Bauhaus Dream of Pre-Fabricated Homes. Panelists will shed light on their importance, linking new research to the 100th anniversary of the Bauhaus—a legendary German school where Mies was the final Director. Free with museum admission or current membership.

- Widows or Widowers (WOW) meet every third Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 537 S. York Road. WOW lends support and provides social activities for those who have lost a spouse.
