Fitness classes in Villa Park
Villa Park Parks and Recreation offers a variety of drop-in fitness classes both mornings and evenings at the Iowa Community Center, 338 N. Iowa. There’s no need to pre-register for classes: just purchase an Easy Pass punch card and make your own fitness schedule. Passes are available in three increments: 10, 18 or 24 visits. Fitness classes are available Monday through Friday mornings and evenings and Saturday mornings. Classes include the very popular Zumba, Zumba Gold, Kettlebell Training and a Cardio Strength Interval class. Seniors who purchase an Easy Pass before Aug. 30 will receive special pricing.
Free Family Fun Drive-In Movie Night
Come out this Friday, Aug. 17, at 8 p.m. for the New Hope Community Church back-to-school double feature of “The Greatest Showman” and “Spider-Man: Homecoming” on the huge outdoor screen. CROP Walk seeks participants
The annual Great Prairie Trail CROP Hunger Walk is having a Rally Night at the Corner House in Lombard (Park and St. Charles Road) on Tuesday, Aug. 21, from 7-8 p.m. All are welcome to attend and learn more about this walk that helps support our local food pantries as well as helping the needy worldwide with food, water, development, emergency needs. The CROP Hunger Walk is an opportunity to bring neighbors, friends and your children to learn more about mission work. Refreshments will be served. Choral union auditions
Singers interested in challenging their vocal skills and giving high-quality concerts are invited to audition for Elmhurst Choral Union. Upcoming concert music includes Handel’s “Messiah” and music by Liszt and Schubert. Membership is open to singers with previous choral experience or the ability to read music. Auditions involve a vocal warm-up and a song of the singer’s choice. York Center, VP Starved Rock trip Sept. 14
Starved Rock Land and Water Cruise: This trip will show you what makes Starved Rock great. Participants will begin with lunch in the historic dining room at the lodge, followed by a narrated trolley tour with history and legends of the area. The trolley will then take you to the new river boat, “The Eagle I” where you will see the east end of the Starved Rock State Park area by water. There are restrooms available throughout the tour and minimal walking is involved. This outing is done in cooperation with Villa Park Parks and Recreation. Ages: 18 years and up. Job fair at the Odeum Aug. 22
State Sen. Tom Cullerton (D-Villa Park), local chambers of commerce and the Illinois Department of Employment Security will host a job fair from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 22, at the Odeum, 1033 N. Villa Ave., Villa Park. Illinois businesses are searching for qualified candidates, accepting résumés and giving on-the-spot interviews. Cullerton is recruiting Illinois employers to participate in his sixth annual job fair. 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., doors open for veterans at 10 a.m. This event is free and open to the public.
‘Microwave Masterpieces’ Aug. 26
Elmhurst Choral Union invites music fans to join them for “Microwave Masterpieces” on Sunday, Aug. 26, at Immanuel Lutheran Church of Elmhurst, 142 E. Third St. Interested singers with a sense of adventure can join members of Elmhurst Choral Union at 1 p.m. to learn Handel’s Coronation Anthems in a single afternoon rehearsal, then perform it. Non-singers with a sense of curiosity can come for the 4 p.m. performance and meet the singers afterwards. Can conductor Scott Uddenberg beat the clock to prepare the work in less than 3 hours? Craft vendors needed for fall festival
The DuPage Care Center is currently seeking craft vendors for the 51st annual Fall Festival to be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 15 in the center’s west parking lot. The festival will have many features including a classic car show, a resident craft sale, children’s games, garage sale, book fair, live music, flea market as well as the popular craft sale. The family-friendly event benefits the Care Center’s Resident Recreation Fund, which helps to provide residents with quality of life programs and services. Big Rigs and Kids Aug. 18
Villa Park Parks and Recreation is holding the always popular and free family event, Big Rigs & Kids on Saturday, Aug. 18, 10 a.m. to noon at Cortesi Veterans Memorial Park, 320 E. Kenilworth. The event will coincide with the Super Sensational Saturday Morning performance of Ken Schultz, “The Flying Fool,” who puts on a show that entertains all ages. Come out to see all the different vehicles from the Villa Park Fire and Police departments including the Mobile Command Center, plus monster tow trucks, dump trucks, mowers and smaller equipment. This is a hands-on event where all ages can climb in, on and around the vehicles.
