Waves and Mariners shoot for personal-best times at the Red Division ‘B’ Meet
Several members of the Lombard Waves and Villa Park Mariners completed their 2018 DuPage Swim and Dive Conference seasons by competing in Saturday’s Red Division “B” Meet at Jefferson Pool. Lombard, Villa Park, Bartlett and Bloomingdale make up the conference’s Red Division this year.
The primary goal of swimmers at the “B” meet is to reach personal-best times for the season. There were no relay races in the meet. A total of 64 Mariners participated in Saturday’s meet. Those swimmers competed in 202 events. Villa Park swimmers earned personal-best times in 134 of those races, or about 66 percent of their total events.
Bloomingdale barely edged Villa Park in the percentage of personal-best times at the meet. The 39 Bloomingdale swimmers who competed in 89 events on Saturday reached personal-best times in 60 events for a success rate of 67 percent.
The 61 Lombard swimmers who swam in the “B” meet competed in 186 races and achieved 92 personal-best times for a success rate of 49 percent. The 63 Bartlett swimmers at the “B” meet earned personal-best times in 110 of 204 races—a success rate of 54 percent.
Bloomingdale received 18 team points for achieving the leading percentage of personal-best times in the “B” meet. Those points will carry over into the totals from this Saturday’s season-ending “A” meet in Bartlett. Villa Park earned 10 team points in the “B” meet, while Bartlett and Lombard earned six and two points, respectively.
This weekend’s “A” meet will feature 78 races—58 individual events and 20 relays. The team that wins the Red Division title will move up to compete in the conference’s White Division next year. The team that places fourth in the Red Division will move into the Blue Division in 2019.
