York’s Judge and Baker combine to throw five-inning no-hitter. Steinorth and Pastuovic homer in Dukes’ 10-0 win over Proviso East

The York baseball team improved to 6-1 with a recent 10-0 victory against Proviso East in West Suburban Conference crossover action.

In the five-inning contest that was stopped due to the 10-run rule, York pitchers Henry Judge and Carl Baker combined to throw a no-hitter.

Judge started the game and pitched the first two innings. He struck out two. Baker pitched the final three innings and fanned eight while walking one. York also committed an error. Judge and Baker faced two batters over the minimum.

Baker threw 28 of his 47 pitches for strikes, while Judge threw 13 of his 18 pitches for strikes. Seven of Baker’s first pitches to batters went for strikes.

York scored four runs in the first inning, added a single run in the third and then scored five more in the fourth. York had 15 hits in the shortened contest.

Ian Steinorth went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBI. Ryan Ross went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and an RBI. Mike Pastuovic went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and three RBI. Bo Thomas had two hits, a run scored and two RBI. Mike Achepohl had a hit and an RBI. Ten different York players had hits in the contest, while five different players drove in runs. York only drew one walk in the game.

Ross and Anthony Scalzitti each had a double. Steinorth ripped a triple and a home run. Pastuovic also homered.

York was scheduled to play its first two WSC Silver Division games of the season earlier this week against Lyons Township with a WSC crossover game at Addison Trail to follow.

The Dukes are scheduled to conclude the three-game series with Lyons Township today at York and are slated to play Downers Grove South in a WSC crossover game at 2 p.m. Saturday at home before starting a three-game series with Glenbard West next week.
