On Wednesday, Nov. 29, the Elmhurst Police Chief Michael Ruth announced that charges had been filed in an incident that occurred on north Elmhurst in the early hours of Monday morning. When police arrived, the suspect tried to flee and in the process, one car struck the police squad. The suspects then fled on foot, prompting a manhunt, with the help of police units and K-9 dog patrols from surrounding communities.
Three individuals have now each been charged with three counts of Burglary and Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle. They are: Tyrone Wilson, 19, of 6721 S. Chappel #1, Chicago; Deanthony Webb, 23, of 6721 Paxton, Chicago; and, Deonte Daniel, 21, of 6954 S. Clyde, Chicago. One of the suspects apprehended was on parole and each of the suspects has prior criminal arrests.
All three subjects have been transported to DuPage County Jail pending a bond hearing.
The Independent received information from the City of Elmhurst indicating that the police investigation into this incident revealed there were more than 20 unlocked cars and several unlocked garages, which the suspects are believed to have entered. Unlocked doors create an opportunity for criminals to steal items of value and look for cars with keys in the ignition.
[The original story]:
Early Monday morning, Nov. 27, the Independent learned that Elmhurst police were seeking suspects in a garage burglary that took place about 5 a.m. on the 600 block of Fay. Acting on a report, officers proceeded to the area and upon arrival, tried to stop a vehicle whose occupants were attempting to escape. In the process, one of the suspects’ vehicles struck a police squad car in front of a residence at 429 West Ave., causing the suspects to flee on foot eastbound on Fremont.
A manhunt was launched by Elmhurst police and eventually, three suspects were located at: 463 W. North Ave; at North Ave & Ridgeland; and on the 400 block of West Ave. Police recovered a loaded handgun from one of the suspects.
A fourth suspect remains at large and is still being sought, but is believed to have fled the area.
