York girls tennis team goes 3-0 at West Aurora quad

Dukes had 19 wins through late last week.

The York girls tennis team finished a recent stretch of six matches by sweeping the West Aurora Quad.

In the six-match span, York went 5-1, including a 3-0 showing at West Aurora.

“We played very smart tennis all day,” said York coach Tres Heimann.

In a 6-1 win over host West Aurora, Gianna Niokleit was a 6-0, 6-0 winner at No. 1 singles. Isabella Nicoli was a 6-3, 6-4 winner at No. 2 singles. Eva Jacobsthal was a 6-0, 6-0 winner at No. 3 singles.

In doubles, Cate Duhig and Jacki Riek were 6-2, 6-0 winners at No. 2 doubles. Lauren Fonorow and Cristina Gamboa were 6-0, 6-2 winners at No. 3 doubles, while Jess Paist and Wendy Zhang were 6-1, 6-1 winners at No. 4 doubles.

York then defeated Regina Domincian 7-0. Melissa Cartis was a 6-0, 6-0 winner at No. 1 singles. Nikoleit was a 6-0, 6-0 winner at No. 2 singles, while Jacobsthal was a 6-0, 6-0 winner at No. 3 singles.

Duhig and Aleksina Jovic were 6-0, 6-3 winners at No. 1 doubles. Riek and Nicoli were 6-1, 6-1 winners at No. 2 doubles. Fonorow and Siva Sreedhar were 6-0, 6-1 winners at No. 3 doubles, while Olivia Brunke and Elysia Woodward were 6-0, 6-0 winners at No. 4 doubles.

York closed the quad with a 5-2 win over Waubonsie Valley. Jacobsthal was a 6-0, 6-1 winner at No. 3 singles.

Cartis and Nikoleit were 6-2, 6-1 winners at No. 1 doubles. Duhig and Riek were 6-3, 6-1 winners at No. 2 doubles. Fonorow and Gamboa won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3 doubles, while Paist and Zhang won 3-6, 6-3, (10-5) at No. 4 doubles.

York also defeated Proviso West 9-0 in West Suburban Conference Silver Division play in Hillside to move to 19-10 overall. York finished 3-3 in WSC Silver regular-season play.

Jovic won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles. Nicoli was a 6-1, 6-0 winner at No. 2 singles. Jacobsthal won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles, while Sreedhar was a 6-0, 6-0 winner at No. 4 singles.

Cartis and Nikoleit were 6-0, 6-0 winners at No. 1 doubles. Riek and Duhig won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 doubles. Fonorow and Gamboa won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 doubles, while Rachel Kayman and Micki Neidigh won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 doubles. Paist and Zhang won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 doubles.

In other earlier action, York lost 4-3 to Lyons Township in WSC Silver play at Berens Park in Elmhurst. Jovic won 6-4, 6-1 at No. 3 singles. Jacobsthal and Fonorow were 3-6, 6-4, (10-8) winners at No. 3 doubles, while Gamboa and Neidigh were 6-4, 6-3 winners at No. 4 doubles.

Through late last week, Fonorow was leading the team with a 24-6 mark. Jacobsthal was at 22-8, while Nikoleit was 21-10. Cartis was 19-12, while Neidigh was 17-7. Sreedhar was 16-4. Woodward had a 16-5 mark, while Gamboa was 16-7. Jovic was 16-14. Zhang sported a 15-4 mark, while Riek was 15-14. Kayman, Duhig and Nicoli each had 14 wins, while Paist had 13 wins.

York’s 19 wins surpassed the team’s 2016 win mark of 18.
