The York girls cross-country team is headed to the sectional round.
The Dukes placed third as a team at the recent Class 3A Wheaton North regional at St. James Farm Forest Preserve in Warrenville.
York runs in the Class 3A Lake Park sectional Saturday at 1 p.m. at Lake Park East Campus where berths in the state finals meet will be on the line.
York junior Sarah May led the way by finishing fifth with a time of 17:54. Sophomore Emma Kern was 13th in 18:32, while senior Katherine Tomaska was 15th in 18:38. Sophomore Lydia Hickey took 16th in 18:39. Junior Kelly Leonard was 21st in 18:51, while senior Erin Davies took 22nd in 18:55. Junior Anna Morley was 31st in 19:10. York’s split between its scoring runners was 0:57.3.
In earlier action, York took fourth at the West Suburban Conference Silver Division meet.
May finished ninth with a time of 18:34.50. Kern was 11th in 18;42.90 and Tomaska took 16th at 19:01.10. May, Kern and Tomaska earned all-WSC Silver honors for their performances. Hickey was 26th in 19:23.50 and Morley rounded out York’s scoring with a time of 19:27.70. Davies was 29th with a time of 19:32.20 and freshman Gianna Stephan was 33rd in 19:51.20.
York finished with 89 points. Glenbard West won the meet with 43 points. Hinsdale Central was second with 48 points.
At the frosh-soph level, York took second at the conference meet by three points. Abby Moriarty won the frosh-soph WSC Silver title. Kelsey Devereux was third, while Ayesha Siddiqi was fourth. Ally Splitstone was 12th. Audrey Buffo was 13th, while Marissa Chavez was 15th and Emma Fahey was 19th.
York’s junior-varsity team placed second as a team by 11 points. Lily Kilgast took second at the conference meet. Jayne Jurasek was sixth. Haley Weiler finished seventh, while Taylor Marti and Olivia Brown tied for 12th. Hailey Walker took 20th and Claire Libert finished in 22nd place.
