The York boys golf team capped a strong West Suburban Conference Silver Division run by placing second in the conference overall.

The Dukes took third at the recent WSC Silver meet with a 304 team score. Hinsdale Central won the meet and the conference title with a 12-under-par 276 team score that York coach Jim Borel labeled “unbelievable.”

Lyons Township was second in the tournament at 295.

But based on the Duke’s third-place showing and its 5-1 conference dual-meet record, York finished second overall in the final standings to Hinsdale Central.

“We played well,” said Borel. “All our players shot 79 or lower on a par-72 course.”

Sophomore Matt Buckley led the way. He shot even-par 72 and earned all-conference accolades.

Aidan Mann and Jake Brown both shot 77s, while Casey O’Malley shot 78. Josh LaBounty and Sam Bartolone both shot 79s.

It was the fifth time this season York shot under 310 at an 18-hole event. The Dukes won the Charger Invitational with a 302, took third at Fenton with a 306, took fourth at Hinsdale Central with that same 306 and placed fifth at Limeston with a 309.

The Dukes finished the regular season with a 7-2 dual-meet mark. York only shot above 157 once during those nine contests.

After the conference meet, the Dukes were averaging 154.36 for nine holes. Mann was leading the team in nine-hole average with a 38.38. LaBounty was at 38.63, while Buckley was at 38.88. Brown was averaging 39.70.

At the JV conference meet, sophomore Mason Lampa shot 74 to tie for meet medalist honors. The York frosh-soph team took third at the meet and in the conference.

“We have some very talented underclassmen,” said Borel late last week. “We will be sending one senior, two juniors, two sophomores and one freshman to the regional (played earlier this week). Our entire team is very talented this year and we are looking forward to the next few weeks in the IHSA state series.”
