The Timothy Christian boys cross-country team had a strong showing at the recent Harvest Christian Invitational contested in hot and humid conditions.

Clint Fincher earned a medal by placing ninth with a time of 17:32. William Terpstra also medaled after placing 15th with a time of 17:48.

Coach Dick Zylstra also lauded the efforts of Caleb Mitchell (20th in 18:00), Alex Oldenburger (66th in 20:19) and Noah Bezanson (89th in 21:36) on the hilly 5K terrain.

Zylstra noted his top three runners of Fincher, a junior, Terpstra, a senior, and Mitchell, a sophomore, have been running “really well.” Oldenburger, a junior, has been making his move of late as well.

“Alex is working hard to close the gap between he and Caleb,” said Zylstra.

The coach also had high praise for Berzanson, a junior. “Noah is a great kid who is learning how to race,” said Zylstra.

Zylstra added health will be a key as the IHSA state series approaches. “We would love to make a run at another state appearance,” he said. “We will need to keep everyone healthy and continue to close some of our gaps.”

Clark and Terpstra are only sophomores. “Hope and Elise are really good,” said Zylstra. “We have been hampered a bit by a lack of depth and a few injuries. It will be interesting to see what we can do at the Lisle regional (Oct. 21).”
