Local students could win big national prizes

The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) is dedicated to promoting patriotism and investing in our future generation.

If you are a democracy-loving high school student interested in a $30,000 college scholarship or a patriotic middle school student interested in winning $5,000, these scholarships may be for you.

19th District Commander Timothy “J” Juillett and Auxiliary President Marie Weibler of the VFW (State of Illinois) have announced the kick-off of this year’s high school Voice of Democracy Competition, the Theme:  “American History: Our Hope for the Future,” and this year’s 6-8 grade Patriot’s Pen Essay Competition, the Theme: “America’s Gift to My Generation.”

Students begin by competing at the local Post Level where prizes begin. Then proceed through District Level, State Level and National Level.  The 1st Place State Voice of Democracy & Patriot’s Pen Winner receives an all-expense paid trip to Washington DC to compete for the $30,000 and $5,000 respectively.

Interested students and/or teachers-parents should contact Marie Weibler at (630) 244-5740, or Timothy “J” Juillett at (630) 330-3299 for more information.
