Update:

Third criminal suspect at large in Elmhurst now in custody

Following a manhunt than lasted more than six hours, the Elmhurst Police Department has reported that third suspect as been located and taken into custody in an incident that took place in the wee hours of Tuesday, July 25.

A resident in the 100 block of East Lake Frontage Street called 9-1-1 after finding a suspicious person hiding under the outdoor deck of the resident’s home. Police arrived and placed the suspect in custody.

Elmhurst Police Chief Michael Ruth reported “all known suspects in this incident are now in custody, therefore no additional suspects are being sought by our department.”

Early Tuesday morning before 8 a.m., the Independent learned that police were asking residents to stay in their homes with the doors locked and to be sure vehicles were secured because a suspect in some overnight armed robberies was at large and on the loose in Elmhurst.

Apparently police responded to a one-vehicle accident on North Avenue near Willow, but when they arrived, three people in the car took off running. Two were apprehended by Elmhurst police officers and are currently in their custody, but one man remained at large.

One weapon was found in the vehicle but the man on the run was considered armed and dangerous, police said, adding that residents in that area of Elmhurst should keep their homes and vehicles locked.

Reports indicate that the passengers in the vehicle were suspects in several armed robberies that occurred overnight in Sycamore and Carol Stream.
