The Elmhurst Police Department recently reported the following arrests and citations. Readers are reminded that an arrest does not constitute a conviction, and that subjects are considered innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law. Juveniles age 17-or-younger are not named.

July 3
• Police said officers responded to assist the Fire Department with regard to a green recycling dumpster which was on fire. The Fire Department arrived on scene and extinguished the fire. A witness noticed a red Chevrolet Traverse parked next to the dumpster with the possible suspects located inside. The vehicle pulled into a different parking spot before leaving the area. The witness then observed smoke and flames coming from the dumpster. The amount of damage caused to the dumpster was unknown at the time of the report.
• A victim in the 100 block of S. Route 83 told police at around 1:25 p.m. that while his car was parked in a parking lot, a suspect took a shopping cart and pushed it into the side of his vehicle causing damage to the right/rear taillight. The victim confronted the suspect, who reportedly stated, “What are you going to do about it?” The suspect then fled the area.
July 1-July 3
A victim at a boutique in the 100 block of S. York told police at around 8:30 a.m. that they discovered pink hardened sterno wax and caulk on the floors, shelving units, and equipment in an unlocked storage locker in the basement. The victim suspects this defacement was caused by an employee who was terminated from the business.

A complainant in the 100 block of S. York called police at around 7:55 a.m. to ask that a suspect be served with a no-trespass notice due to threatening behavior. The suspect applied for a cook’s position, but the complainant decided not to hire him. The suspect showed up at the business today wanting to intimidate the complainant. He was served a no-trespass notice.

A complainant in the 1200 block of S. York Road told police at around 1:31 p.m. that during the above noted time frame an unknown suspect(s) scratched the driver side rear door and rear quarter panel of his vehicle while it was parked in a parking lot.

July 5
A complainant in the 100 block of E. First St. told police that during his custody exchange, he was alarmed and disturbed because the suspect smelled of alcohol, got very close to the complainant, cursed and used vulgar language towards him while his son was present, according to police. The suspect left before officer could speak with him. An officer later spoke to the suspect’s wife who was present during the incident. She stated that neither she nor the suspect was intoxicated.
July 4
• James Freeburn, 73, of Elmhurst, was issued a citation for disorderly conduct in the 100 block of E. Elmhurst at around 7:40 p.m. Police said Freeburn fell off his bicycle while riding, and officers observed he was highly intoxicated.
• Police said officers were approached by the manager saying there was a seemingly intoxicated male with his head down in the eating area at around 6:12 p.m. After several attempts to wake him, he eventually became alert and displayed all the signs of intoxication, according to police. Mario Mauricio-Martin, 37, of Franklin Park, was issued a citation for disorderly conduct.
July 3
Officers responded to the report of an intoxicated female who was stumbling down the sidewalk near North and Illinois at around 5:36 p.m., according to police. Police said Robin M. Loren, 47, of Elmhurst, was located and she was found to have slurred speech and difficulty balancing. According to police, officers discovered an open container of alcohol, cannabis, and a glass cannabis smoking pipe. Loren was issued citations for public intoxication, possession of open alcohol in public, possession of cannabis and possession of drug paraphernalia.
July 2
Steven D. Smith, 41, of Chicago, was charged with disorderly conduct-befouling public property in the 100 block E. Butterfield at around 11:23 a.m. Police said an officer responded to an indecent exposure report. The officer located Smith, who stated he had urinated in the parking lot while his friend was buying cigarettes, according to police.
July 1
• Jack Cronin, 21, of Elmhurst, was issued a citation for disorderly conduct-public intoxication, in the 900 block of S. Saylor at around 1:46 a.m. Police said officers responded to the above location for Cronin, who was reportedly laying on the grass. Upon speaking to Cronin, it was found that he had been drinking alcohol prior to the incident, according to police.
• Dylan J. Schroeder, 22, of Chicago, was charged with disorderly conduct and possession of fireworks in the 800 block of N. Indiana at around 4:20 p.m. Police said an officer responded to a report of a man with a gun. Schroeder was located standing next to a vehicle and stated the guns were BB guns, according to police. Police said the guns were located, a black BB gun pistol was in the driver’s door and a H&K Mp5K BB submachine gun was under the driver’s seat. The BB guns did not have an orange tip, and police said there were fireworks in plain view inside the vehicle.

A victim in the 400 block of W. Butterfield Road told police at around 11:49 a.m. that they observed a suspect masturbating. The victim did not wish to pursue charges at this time. An investigation is pending.

July 5
Police said a suspect in the 400 block of W. Vallette became angry when the victim told the suspect to clean up the mess in his room. The suspect reportedly became verbally abusive toward the victim, and then damaged a door frame and a window pane. The suspect fled the area prior to police arrival, and was located by his father.
June 29
A 32-year-old Elmhurst man was charged with two counts of domestic battery in the 100 block of Virginia at around 1:08 a.m. Police said dispatch received a call from a veteran’s crisis center stating the suspect called and admitted to punching his girlfriend in the head and fled the scene. Officers arrived and saw the victim’s left side of her head, face, chest and shirt were covered in blood.

July 5
Michael Welch, 60, of Bolingbrook, was charged with DUI-drugs, unlawful possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, improper lane usage and disobeying a traffic control device subsequent to a traffic stop near North and Oak at around 5:02 p.m. Police said Welch was found to be under the influence of drugs, and during a search of Welch, a controlled substance was located.
July 4
Police said that subsequent to a complaint of a loud party in the 200 block of E. Columbia at around 3:31 a.m., officers could hear multiple subjects and music from the street. Jack P. Gamperl, 18, of Elmhurst, was issued citations for possession of alcohol by a minor and loud music.
July 3
Oscar Yescas, 37, of Chicago, was charged with aggravated DUI, driving while license revoked, making an improper turn and no insurance subsequent to a traffic stop near York and Vallette at 11:50 p.m. Police said Yescas also had two active warrants out of Cook and DuPage County.
July 2
Justin Kane, 42, of Glen Ellyn, was charged with DUI and speeding subsequent to a traffic stop near Route 83 and North at around 3:07 a.m. Police said Kane had red, glassy eyes, slurred speech and a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his breath.
July 1
• Police said officers responded to a hit-and-run crash where a truck struck a city light pole and fled the scene. The offending vehicle was located and was observed disobeying a stop sign, according to police. Police said a traffic stop was conducted and the driver, Phillip Breckler, 30, of Elmhurst, was found to be intoxicated. Breckler was charged with DUI, failure to give information after striking property, disobeying a stop sign and no insurance at around 3:13 p.m.
• Migdalia Lebron, 31, of Bensenville, was charged with DUI, speeding and disobeying a traffic control device, while Juan Maldonado, 32, also of Bensenville, was issued a citation for illegal transportation of alcohol subsequent to a traffic stop near York and Belden at around 1:44 a.m.
• Gilber Pina-Sanchez, 43, of Joliet, was charged with DUI, improper lane usage and failure to dim headlights subsequent to a traffic stop near Route 83 and St. Charles at around 3:15 a.m.
June 30
• John Oats, 69, of Bellwood, was charged with DUI and making an improper turn subsequent to a traffic stop near North and Route 83 at around 2:03 a.m.
• Christina Piper, 42, of Elmhurst, was charged with DUI near Vallette and Fairfield at around 2:21 a.m. Police said that subsequent to investigating a suspicious vehicle, Piper exited her vehicle and entered the property of a school. She was located walking on Montrose, where she displayed signs of intoxication, according to police.
June 29
• Jose Huaracha, 25, of Bensenville, and Joseph Casella, 22, of Elmhurst, were issued citations for consumption of alcohol in public at Berens Park at around 12:56 p.m. Police said that subsequent to a suspicious vehicle, Huaracha and Casella were found to be drinking and in possession of open alcohol.
• Robert Yahr, 69, of Elmhurst, was charged with DUI and improper lane usage subsequent to a traffic stop near Spring and Saylor Avenue at around 11:18 p.m.
Harassment, threats
July 5
A victim in the 100 block of W. Virginia told police at around 9:52 p.m. that while at his girlfriend’s house, he received a phone call from a suspect where the suspect stated he was going to beat up the victim. The victim then received a text message from the suspect, reportedly stating, “I am coming, be ready.” An officer contacted the suspect and advised him to cease all contact with the victim.
June 22
A victim in the 100 block of Fairlane Avenue told police at around 5:09 p.m. that her ex-husband has been harassing her through both text messages and emails. An officer will follow up with the complaints. Police said John C. Crededio, 49, of Downers Grove, was served with his copies of the complaints on June 30.

Desiree M. McDonald, 21, of Maywood, was charged with obstructing identification, driving while license suspended, expired registration and one headlight near North and Willow at around 3:29 a.m. Police said that subsequent to a traffic stop, McDonald provided a false name.
Possession of cannabis, drug paraphernalia, controlled substance
July 3
Police said that subsequent to an investigation of a suspicious vehicle parked in the parking lot of Eldridge Park at around 11:45 p.m., the suspects were found standing around a picnic table with open beer and a package of cigarillos. Officers detected an odor of cannabis. A search of Suspect 1’s vehicle yielded alcohol, cigarettes, two glass smoking pipes and a small baggie containing cannabis. All three juvenile suspects were placed into custody and transported to the police department. All three suspects were cited for violation of curfew and being in the park after hours. Suspect 1 also was cited for possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of alcohol by a minor; Suspect 2 was cited for consumption of alcohol by a minor. All three suspects were released to their parents.

• Carl A. Bronk, 37, of Elmhurst, was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance near Palmer and Schiller at around 12:34 a.m. Police said that an officer responded to the report of a suspicious person in the above location. Bronk was located and found to be in possession of two bags containing suspected heroin and four empty bags containing residue, according to police.
• Nikaela Luangkhoth, 19, of Glendale Heights, was issued citations for possession of cannabis and no vehicle insurance subsequent to a seat belt enforcement detail near North and Myrtle at around 12;06 a.m.

July 5
• A victim in the 300 block of Addison told police at around 12:58 p.m. that he is missing three watches from his bedroom. The victim and his wife checked the entire house and have been unable to locate the watches. The victim recently has had carpet installers doing work inside his house.
• A victim in the 600 block of N. York told police at around 4:44 p.m. that an unknown suspect removed a padlock from his gym locker and took his cell phone and his wallet. The driver’s license was entered into LEADS.
• A victim and her grandmother were shopping in the 600 block of N. York at around 7 p.m., and realized as they were checking out that the victim’s purse was missing. The victim later learned it had been turned in to the service desk. Missing from the purse was cash and a cell phone.
• A victim in the 400 block of W. Butterfield told police at around 8:52 p.m. that an unknown suspect opened six different cell phone accounts using her name and her deceased husband’s name. The accounts were opened at a Best Buy store in Minnesota. An investigation is pending.
July 4
A victim in the 2500 block of N. Larch told police at around 4:35 p.m. that an unknown suspect made an unauthorized cash withdrawal from his debit account. The withdrawal occurred at an ATM in Chicago. The victim states that both he and his wife have their debit cards in their possession. The victim closed the account.
July 3
The owner of Enzee Boutique in the 100 block of N.York told police at around 12:06 p.m. that she determined a juvenile suspect had just stolen a jacket from her business. The juvenile and her friend were located by the owner of RedE Boutique inside the Enzee Boutique. The owner of RedE Boutique spoke with both juveniles, who admitted to stealing a jacket from RedE Boutique and three items of clothing from Enzee Boutique. The clothing items were returned and the juveniles were released to their parents without charges. Both juveniles will be referred to the Peer Jury Program.

A victim in the 800 block of S. Stratford Ave. told police that his unlocked vehicle was burglarized while parked in his driveway between the above dates. The victim’s black wallet was found on the southwest corner of Stratford and Adams. The victim related that a pair of sunglasses were also stolen.

A victim in the 900 block of S. Bryan St. told police at around 8 p.m. that an unknown suspect(s) had entered the unlocked bed cap of his pickup truck and removed several items.
July 1-July 2
A complainant in the 700 block of Church Road told police that upon arriving to the business he observed the glass entry door to be cracked. The pane of glass adjacent to the entry door was broken and had been partially removed from the steel frame. Both doors to the business had also been unlocked. The building was searched for suspects with no results. The complainant reported that a computer and monitor were stolen from the business.
May 20-July 2
A victim in the 200 block of W. Van Buren told police that he wrote a check to a Bible organization as a donation between the above dates. While going over his checking account, he found the check had been altered. The date and the memo line had also been changed. An officer checked with the Bible organization, which confirmed it had never received the check.
June 30
• Armani Guzman, 23, of Chicago, was charged with attempted theft in the 600 block of N. York at around 6:02 p.m. Police said a complainant reported that Guzman and another suspect were attempting to purchase items using fraudulent credit cards. Officers located the suspects as they were attempting to leave the parking lot. Only Guzman was charged.
• Jorge Zamora-Flores, 35, of Glendale Heights, was charged with attempted retail theft at a store in the 300 block of S. Route 83 at around 8:25 p.m. According to police, a complainant stated she observed the suspect take several clothing items from the sales floor and place them into an empty bag which was in the shopping cart. The suspect passed the final point of purchase with the shopping cart and entered the vestibule area of the south entrance/exit doors of the store, police said. He then then re-entered the store with the shopping cart, left the cart filled with merchandise in the store, and exited the store, according to police.
• A victim in the 300 block of Yorkfield told police at around 5:49 a.m. that the victim’s wife awoke to a bank text message advising her of suspicious account activity. She called the bank and had this account closed. Through more checking online, she found additional unauthorized charges. The victim then went out to his truck in the driveway and discovered the vehicle had been burglarized. Vehicle was left unlocked.
• The manager of a store in the 900 block of S. Route 83 told police at around 9 a.m. that he arrived at work this morning and discovered damage to an interior door of the business. A review of surveillance video revealed that a suspect described as wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt, a dark baseball camp, dark pants, black and white shoes and a blue backpack, attempted to pry open the office door.

A victim in the 900 block of S. Stratford told police that two of his unlocked vehicles had been unlawfully entered while parked in the driveway at his residence between the above dates. Multiple items were stolen.

A complainant told police at around 2:29 p.m. that he unknowingly left two cell phones in the fifth floor east side men’s bathroom of Elmhurst Hospital. Upon returning the restroom, he found his cell phones were missing.
June 22-June 29
A complainant in the 100 block of W. Grand Ave. told police at around 3:39 p.m. that he received a bundle of registration stickers from the Secretary of State on June 22. When he went to issue a registration sticker, he was unable to locate it. He does not know if the sticker was stolen, or if he never received it from the Secretary of State’s office. The registration sticker was entered into LEADS.

A victim in the 100 block of Joanne Way told police that an unknown suspect(s) used her credit card number and phone number to purchase airline tickets and hundreds of dollars of Uber and Lyft charges over a 24-hour period. The credit card has since been cancelled.
June 16-June 21
A victim in the 100 block of S. York told police that she had cash taken out of her wallet that was located in her locked desk at work between the above dates. The victim asked each staff member if they took the money with no results.
June 20
Attempted identity theft was reported in the 200 block of N. Highland at around 9:13 a.m. A complainant told police that she received an email from the bank stating her replacement credit cards were being mailed to her. After calling her bank, she learned that an unknown suspect was attempting to gain access to the accounts. There was no loss at this time; filed for matter of record purposes only.
Aug. 31-Dec. 13, 2016
A victim in the 300 block of E. Third told police she was contacted by a collection agency which stated that she had an outstanding balance with Comcast. The victim contacted Comcast which advised her that her Social Security number, with a Philadelphia, Pa., address, was used to open an account between the above dates. The account was closed on Dec. 13 due to non-payment.
