ELMHURST HISTORY MUSEUM PHOTO Elmhurst Independent Museum hosts Disco Demolition panel discussion
On the evening of July 26, the Elmhurst History Museum held a panel discussion about Disco Demolition, in conjunction with its current exhibit. Panelists are pictured here including (from left): WGN radio host Dave Hoekstra, Jim Rittenburg of Faces disco club, former Loop DJ Mitch Michaels, former White Sox promotion manager Mike Veeck, Chicago Tribune baseball writer Paul Sullivan, former WLUP GM Jeff Schwartz and cultural historian Joe Bryl. The group participated in a fascinating discussion about Chicago in the 1970s, baseball and the music scene.

Disco Demolition exhibit extended through Dec. 31

Last week, the Elmhurst History Museum announced that its current exhibit, Disco Demolition: The Night Disco Died, has been extended through the end of the year.

Disco Demolition Night exploded on July 12, 1979 in the middle of a White Sox doubleheader and it remains one of the city’s most controversial sports history moments. Experience the interactive exhibit inspired by the book by Steve Dahl with journalist Dave Hoekstra and photographer Paul Natkin. View artifacts from Dahl’s personal collection, check out the custom-made guitar of Cheap Trick’s Rick Neilsen, see the uniform jersey worn by White Sox catcher Mike Colbern on Disco Demolition night, watch excerpts from the 25th anniversary documentary…and much more.
