Timothy Christian girls track team sending large contingent to state meet

Most qualifiers for the Trojans in six years.

The Timothy Christian girls track team’s batting average at the recent Class 1A IC Catholic Prep sectional meet was out of this world.

The Trojans, despite bringing only 12 girls to the meet at Hanson Stadium in Chicago, finished third overall and qualified an impressive nine girls for this weekend’s state finals meet in Charleston at Eastern Illinois University.

The Trojans had 83 points, finishing behind only Chicago Luther North (121 points) and IC Catholic Prep (102 points).

It’s the largest state contingent Timothy has had in six years.

“We had a great meet,” said Timothy coach Kevin Hackert.

Timothy’s state qualifiers included the 3,200 relay team that won the sectional title in 11:42.57. That group included Valerie Hoekstra, Jill Forgac, Elise Terpstra and Rachel Stoll.

Timothy took second in the 800 relay to earn a spot at state. That group ran 1:56.10 and included Zoe Stanton, Schnurr, Gabi Silvia and Priscilla Nartey.

Timothy won the 1,600 relay in 4:26.07 with Stoll, Valerie Hoekstra, Forgac and Olivia Hoekstra.

Schnurr qualified in the 100 high hurdles by taking second in a time of 16.89. Elise Terpstra, a freshman, won the 800 sectional title in 2:35.10. Olivia Hoekstra took second in the 400 with a state-qualifying time of 1:00.39.

Earlier, the Trojans competed in the Metro Suburban Conference Red Division meet. Timothy took second in the conference and had eight girls earn all-conference honors (finishing first or second).

Stanton took sixth in the 100 with a time of 13.72. Nartey was fourth in the 200 at 29.04. Olivia Hoekstra won the 400 conference title in 1:02.95, while Forgac was third at 1:06.82.

Terpstra took third in the 800 at 2:35.17, while Stoll was fourth at 2:37.89.

Freshman Hope Clark was fourth in the 1,600 at 6:13.92, while Annika Ward was fifth in 6:21.20.

Clark was third in the 3,200 with a time of 12:28.04.

Maggie Troxel took third in the 100 hurdles in 18.91. She was third as well in the 300 hurdles in 55.48. Abigail Groenewold was sixth in 1:00.96.

Timothy was second in the 400 relay in 53.34 with Oliva Hoekstra, Stanton, Silvia and Nartey. The Trojans also were second in the 800 relay in 1:57.61 with Stanton, Valerie Hoekstra, Silivia and Nartey.

The Trojans won the 1,600 conference title in 4:24.52 with Stoll, Valerie Hoekstra, Forgac and Olivia Hoekstra.

Timothy also was second in the 3,200 relay with a time of 11:29.64. That team featured Valerie Hoekstra, Terpstra, Forgac and Stoll.

Tyra Hopson was fourth in the shot put with a throw of 25-10. Hopson was fourth in the discus at 68-11, while Ruth Hruska-Kelley was fifth in 68-11.

Hruska-Kelley was third in the high jump with a mark of 4-6. Troxel was fifth at 4-4. Olivia Hoekstra was second in the long jump at 15-9. Terpstra was fourth in the triple jump at 32-0.
