Montini Catholic Mathletes are one of only three teams, and the only Catholic school in the state of Illinois Division 2A to qualify for the ICTM State Math Competition consecutively since 2001. The team practices and competes September through May and belongs to the Catholic Math League South, competing against A and AA schools.
The purpose of the ICTM State Math Contest is to recognize outstanding mathematical achievement, encourage independent study, stimulate interest in mathematics, and provide a wholesome meeting ground for students and teachers of mathematics through academic competition. The competition has two age brackets: one for high school students, and one for junior high or middle school students.
