Saturday, May 6 and Sunday, May 7 — Art in the Park, Wilder Park
From 10 a.m.-5 p.m., more than 125 artists will gather in Wilder Park for the 21st annual Art In The Park. The day includes music, food and children’s activities as well as a wide array of art including jewelry, glass, ceramics, painting, photography and sculpture. Stop for a meal at Wilder Mansion, where Café Amano will host an upscale café on both days. The Explore Elmhurst Trolley will be operating, providing convenient transportation to and from Wilder Park. From 6-10 p.m., the Elmhurst Junior Women’s Club will hold its annual “Tickled Pink!” fundraiser at the Diplomat West, 681 W. North Ave. Fun for adults and children, the adults can enjoy a night of shopping, appetizers, drinks and desserts and free prize drawings. Children can participate in crafts, hair and nails, face painting and meet Disney inspired princesses. Admission: $30/adults, $10/children younger than 10. Proceeds benefit the Elmhurst Memorial Healthcare Breast Health Center and the EJWC Brenda Grabacki Scholarship Fund.

From 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days, RRAF in Elmhurst will host a sale of antique, costume and retro jewelry at 613 So. Main St. in Lombard to benefit children with autism.

• Beginning at 7 p.m., the Elmhurst Symphony Orchestra presents “Musical Monuments,” the final concert of its 56th season at Elmhurst Christian Reformed Church, 149 W. Brush Hill Rd. Tickets are $32 for adults, $30 for seniors and $9 for students. Group and family rates are available. Behind the Music Stand, led by audience favorite Dr. Ted Hatmaker, will take place at 5:45 p.m. prior to the concert. All are welcome. • Faith Evangelical United Methodist Church, 111 W. North Ave., will host Alan Fenske at 7:30 p.m., who will present background information with facts and knowledge of the moon. Alan has given lectures at Elmhurst Public Library, volunteers at Elmhurst schools for after school enrichment classes in astronomy and science and is a member of the Chicago Planetary Society. Afterwards, weather permitting, participants will each get to view the moon up close, looking through his telescope. • Beginning at 12:15 p.m., the Single Mothers Support Group will host its monthly meeting in the Garden Room of the Elmhurst Christian Reformed Church 149 Brush Hill Road. The meeting includes lunch, followed by child care while mothers enjoy a program about single women who survived poverty, the loss of a business and losing a child, etc. Poised for Success will also present part of the program. • From 2-4:30 p.m., the Elmhurst History Museum will present “Hunting for your Home’s History” workshop. Instructor Jean Guarino, PhD, leads participants through the steps of researching your house history including: where to find primary source documents, online resources, and combing the archives of local institutions. Saturday, May 13
• From 9 a.m. to 12 noon, the third annual Yard Sale and Green Garden Fair will be held in the parking lot of the First Congregational Church at 235 S. Kenilworth. New this year will be the sale, by We Grow Dreams Greenhouse and Garden Center, of native plants, sourced within 90 miles of St. Charles, Ill. Food scrap amended compost will be available for purchase. Bring your own containers to fill. Or buy a rain barrel. University of Illinois Extension Master Gardeners will be there to answer gardening questions. Free and open to the public.
• Rockin’ Jewelry for Kids is a beginner’s class being hosted by the Lizzadro Museum of Lapidary Art, 220 Cottage Hill Ave., to make their own gemstone jewelry to keep. Choose two different types of jewelry to make with stones from the Museum Shop and learn how to work with jeweler’s tools. From 6-10 p.m., United Community Concerns Assn. (UCCA) will hold Taste of the Town: Food for Life at Wilder Mansion. Tickets include food and drink samples from 15 area restaurants, cooking demos, live music by the Clay Corso Trio. Tickets are $50 each in advance, $60 at the door, and can be purchased at ucca-elmhurst.org or send payment to UCCA, 125 W. Church St., Elmhurst.
Sunday, May 21
From 1-5 p.m., Elmhurst Museum Day will take place at the various local museums including Elmhurst Art Museum, Elmhurst History Museum, Lizzadro Museum of Lapidary Art, and Wilder Park Conservatory. The Explore Elmhurst trolley will be operating that day. Free admission to all museums plus family friendly activities, exhibit tours and much more. Limited free parking at each museum.
