Dukes take 2 of 3 from Downers Grove North

The York baseball team went 3-1 last week, winning at a .750 clip to keep the early season momentum positive.
The Dukes started the week with a 3-2 West Suburban Conference Silver Division loss to Downers Grove North in eight innings.
York led 2-1 in the fifth inning, but Downers North scored a run in the sixth and one more in the eighth.
Austin Gelsomino had two hits and Joey Chiappetta’s double was York’s only other hit on the day. Gelsomino and Elliott Achepohl each had an RBI.
Gelsomino took the loss in relief. He struck out two in 2 1/3 innings. Burke Corcoran started and allowed five hits in 5 2/3 innings, while striking out four.
York came back to notch a 6-3 win against Downers North in Game 2 of the three-game series at the Downers Grove American Legion field.
York jumped out to a 4-1 lead after two innings and had seven hits in the game.
Jake Hadawi had two hits, a run scored and an RBI. Nick Lee had a hit and three RBI. Mike Bernal had a hit and an RBI, as did Ryan Ross. Ian Steinorth and Mike Pastuovic each had a hit. Ross and Steinorth had doubles.
Haldawi pitched five innings and allowed three hits, while striking out three to pick up the win. Charlie Pakenas pitched the last two innings and struck out two to earn the save.
York wrapped the series up with a 13-8 win over Downers North at the American Legion field.
York led 5-3 after two innings, but trailed 6-5 after three. York scored three runs in the fourth, four in the sixth and one in the seventh to pull away in a game that featured 27 hits (16 by York).
Bernal, Chiappetta, Pastuovic, Hadawi and Gelsomino each had two hits. Andrew Deardurff had one official at-bat, scored three runs, had a hit, drove in two and walked twice. Chiappetta had three RBI. Ross, Tamaine Durr, Lee and Deardurff each had a double. Pastuovic had a triple. York swiped five bases, led by Steinorth’s two stolens.
Pakenas was the winning pitcher in relief. He pitched the final 4 1/3 innings.
York wrapped the week with a 6-5 win in eight innings over Addison Trail in a WSC crossover game. The win moved York to 8-1 overall.
Bernal’s hit in the bottom of the eighth inning won the game for York, which had 10 hits.
Deardurff had two hits and an RBI. Lee and Bernal also had two hits and an RBI. Chiappetta had a hit and two RBI. Pastuovic had a hit and an RBI. Ross and Gelsomino each had a hit. Lee and Bernal each had a double, while Chiappetta had a triple. York stole five bases.
Zach Pflum was the winning pitcher. He threw the final five innings and scattered two hits. Durr pitched the first three innings and had three strikeouts.
