Willowbrook baseball team runs mark to 12-2

Michaelson throws no-hitter to help Warriors sweep series from Morton.

Make it three more wins for the Willowbrook baseball team.

The Warriors swept a recent three-game West Suburban Conference Gold Division series from Morton.

The three wins ran Willowbrook’s conference record to 4-0.

In the first game of the series, Willowbrook standout pitcher Alec Michaelson threw a five-inning no-hitter in the team’s 10-0 victory.

Michaelson allowed no hits and struck out four while walking one. He needed only 53 pitches (32 strikes) to record the no-hitter.

Willowbrook led 2-0 after the first inning and 5-0 after three innings. The Warriors scored five runs in the bottom of the fifth to invoke the 10-run rule. The Warriors had 10 hits.

MJ Ranieri went 2-for-2 with two runs scored and two RBI. He also walked once. Trevor Jaloszynski went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and three RBI. Michaelson helped his cause by going 2-for-3 with a run scored and two RBI. Mike Dembowski went 2-for-3 with a run scored. Dan Gusel had an RBI. While Ben Espinoza and Jon Kelso each had a hit.

Jaloszynski, Kelso and Ranieri each had a double. Kelso stole three bases and Ranieri had a stolen base.

In a 9-2 win against Morton in the second game of the series, Willowbrook led 4-1 after the second inning and added four runs in the fifth inning. The Warriors amassed 12 hits.

Espinoza had a hit and two RBI. Kelso had a hit and scored a run. Kyle Ferguson had a hit. Ranieri had three hits, a run scored and an RBI. Michaelson had two hits and two runs scored. Dembowski had two hits, three runs scored and an RBI. Jack Hines had a hit, a run scored and two RBI. Mason Kamp had a hit and an RBI. Ranieri added two doubles, while Dembowski and Hines each had a double.

Ryan Mintz was the winning pitcher. He went 5 2/3 innings and allowed three hits and no earned runs. He fanned seven. Vince Ruchala pitched the final 1 1/3 innings.

In a 12-2 win in six innings against Morton, the Warriors had 13 hits and scored at least two runs in five of the six innings.

Espinoza had a hit and two runs scored. Kelso went 3-for-3 with three runs scored, three RBI and two walks. Ferguson scored a run and had two RBI. Ranieri had a run scored. Jaloszynski had two runs scored, a hit, two RBI and two walks. Michaelson had a hit, a run scored and an RBI. Dembowski went 4-for-4 with a run scored and two RBI. Hines went 2-for-4 with a run scored and two RBI. Marshall McDonnell added a hit.

Dembowski and Hines each had a double. Kelso had two triples.

Jack Nilles was the winning pitcher. He threw five innings and allowed four hits and two earned runs. He struck out two. Ruchala pitched the seventh.

Willowbrook closed out the week with a 7-0 WSC crossover loss to Lyons Township.

Lyons scored six runs in the second inning. Willowrook had eight hits.

Espinoza went 3-for-4. Kelso and Ranieri each had a hit. Michaelson had two hits. Kamp had one hit.

Jaloszynski took the loss. Jack Hines and Will Hines also pitched. The Hines combined to strike out six.

In the JV game, Willowbrook won 17-4 in five innings. The Warriors scored 10 runs over the first three innings and belted out 15 hits.

Ruchala went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and three RBI. John Taylor went 2-for-3 with three runs scored. Gusel went 2-for-4 with three RBI. Jack Hines went 2-for-4 with a run scored and two RBI. McDonnell had a hit and two RBI, while Mintz had two runs scored, a hit and two RBI. JT Ceh had two runs scored a hit and an RBI. Nick Sabatino scored two runs and had a hit. Sam Pelsor scored two runs and had an RBI. Scott Kohrt had a run scored, a hit and an RBI. Gusel had two doubles, while Ruchala and MIntz each had one double.

Pelsor hit a home run.

Eric Grunst was the winning pitcher. He went three innings and struck out three. Brandon Shissler pitched the final two innings.
