Dear Elmhurst community:
We invite you to join us for the second annual Annie LeGere “To the Moon and Back” 4K walk on Saturday, April 22nd, starting at 10 a.m. at Sandburg Middle School.
We celebrate Annie’s memory and the Annie LeGere Law that was passed in her honor on Aug. 8, 2016.
As many of you know, Annie LeGere was a 13 year-old life-long resident of Elmhurst who in August 2015 passed away from a severe allergic reaction to unknown food she had consumed. To honor Annie and to prevent such a tragedy from happening to anyone else, my husband and I created The Annie LeGere Foundation (ALF). Over the past 20 months, ALF has strived to bring education and awareness about the urgency of allergies. Our most significant accomplishment has been passing The Annie LeGere Law, known as Illinois General Assembly Bill SB2878. This law allows first responders to carry administer epinephrine in case of an anaphylactic reaction. The law has been embraced by communities throughout Illinois and is currently being implemented by the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office. There office covers an area of 332 square miles with a population of 904,160. ALF has been informed by the city of Elmhurst that it too will soon be providing this life-saving tool to its police officers. This truly warms our hearts!
On Saturday, April 22, we invite you to celebrate our Annie by joining us for the second annual ALF 4K walk through Elmhurst streets and prairie path, followed by a celebration at HB Jones. Please visit the ALF website to learn more and to register. Visit amazingannie.org under events tab.
We thank you for your support and hope that you can join us in remembering Annie as we continue to advocate for allergy awareness.
Sincerely,
Shelly and John LeGere
