Timothy Christian baseball team sweeps Walther Christia

Davidson’s four-hit game powers Trojans; Schiff steals home in South Carolina game.

The Timothy Christian baseball team started the Metro Suburban Conference Red Division portion of its schedule on the right foot by sweeping a two-game series from Walther Christian.

In an 8-3 win over Walther in Elmhurst, Timothy jumped out to a 6-0 lead after two innings.

Joey Davidson had four hits, including a double. In the first inning, Jimmy Allen walked, stole second and scored on a double by Noah Marrera. Davidson’s double scored Brady Klooster (running for Marrera). Nick Huisman reached on an error, which scored Davidson. Graham Loughead, running for Huisman, scored on another error.

In the Timothy second, Allen scored on a Marrera sacrifice fly and Josh Anderson scored on a fielder’s choice.

Davidson singled in the fourth, stole second and scored on Brian Schiff’s double. In the fifth, Anderson walked, advanced to second on a balk and third on a passed ball and then scored on a Davidson single.

Huisman was the winning pitcher. He struck out eight and allowed three hits in five innings.

In the finale in Melrose Park, Timothy posted 12 runs from the third to the fifth inning en route to a 12-1 five-inning win over Walther. Timothy had 12 hits.

Jimmy Allen was the winning pitcher. Marrera hit a home run, while Allen had two doubles. Schiff, Connor Gwaltney and Jonny Strube each had a double.

In a seven-run fourth inning, Timothy scored on an error, a single by Davidson, a double by Strube, a single by Schiff and a double by Gwaltney. Schiff, Allen, Anderson, Strube and Gwaltney collected multiple hits.

Allen fanned 12 in five innings. He allowed two hits and walked one.

In other recent action, Timothy lost a 14-6 non-conference game to Lisle. Timothy tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the first inning when Marrera singled and advanced to second on an error. Klooster, again running for the catcher, scored on a Davidson single.

Timothy trailed 11-1 by the fifth inning, but put up four runs in the bottom of the fifth. Schiff had a double in the game and finished with three hits and two RBI. Davidson also drove in a pair of runs.

Timothy wrapped up its trip to Myrtle Beach, S.C., with an 11-7 win over Lake Center Christian out of Canton, Ohio.

Timothy took a 3-0 lead after the first inning and led 8-3 after four. The Trojans had 10 hits.

In the first inning, Allen walked and scored on an Anderson triple. Anderson then scored on a wild pitch. Marrera singled, advanced to third on a walk and a wild pitch and scored on Gwaltney’s sacrifice fly.

After a 45-minute rain delay, Lake Center tied the game at 3-3. In the bottom of the third, Schiff tripled to lead off the inning and stole home on a botched suicide squeeze bunt attempt.

In the fourth, Marrera doubled and advanced to third on a wild pitch, but was thrown out at the plate on a fielder’s choice. Two more runs scored on consecutive hit-by-pitches. Allen drove in the final two runs with a single to left.

In the fifth, Marrera was hit by a pitch and scored on a Strube triple. Allen led off the sixth with a triple and scored on an Anderson single.

Shaun Van Tholen was the winner. He went four innings and allowed four hits, while striking out two. Anderson pitched the final three innings.
