The Nitty Gritty of Marketing Yourself as an Artist
The Nitty Gritty of Marketing Yourself as an Artist, is two separate events featuring speakers who will share their professional insight and advice about how to successfully position yourself as a creative artist. The events take place from 4 -5 pm on Saturday, May 13 and from 11a.m.- 12 noon on Saturday, May 27, at Park Art Center (PAC), 9 East Park Blvd., Villa Park, IL. Space is limited and registration for one or both events is required (by May 11 for the May 13th event, and May 25 for the May 27th event) through Eventbrite. These events are free with a suggested donation of $5.00. Light refreshments.
Park Art Center recognizes that many artists’ training does not include the tools and information that would enable unrecognized artists to position themselves professionally. After working for several months, or years, creating artwork, there are many other details to address in order to promote yourself as an artist and market your work successfully and profitably, all while avoiding legal pitfalls. These two programs are designed to help artists bring their work to the public, gaining appreciation, recognition, and last but not least, income. For instance, some artists may do trade shows to promote their artwork and their services if they want to expand on what they do as an artist. They need to gather trade show supplies, marketing materials, and any other promotional services so they can have the best chance at marketing who they are and what they can offer. Whilst trade shows are important for them to show their work, it is also a necessity that they are promoting online too as they can have a wider fanbase instead of just local. Building on their social media platforms is important in this instance, so researching how they can Buy tiktok followers, as well as Instagram likes, can keep them engaged online and have them be noticed in the circles they are part of.
The agenda for Saturday, May 13 from 4 p.m.-5 p.m. includes a representative from Lawyers for the Creative Arts discussing concepts that apply to the visual arts including contracts, copyrights, and trademarks. Also on the agenda for May 13 is Terry Ross, of Ross Contemporary Gallery in Chicago. Ross, an artist representative, dealer, curator and collector will discuss gallery conventions, including parameters for the information artists need to provide, including framing and hanging standards.
Featured speakers for the May 27 agenda, from 11 a.m. – 12 noon, includes Sean McMenemy, an animation artist who also enjoys urban sketching, painting and photography, and co-founder of Studios 630, who will share insight on how to create a successful Etsy store. Also on the agenda is freelance writer, Colette Freeman, who will discuss the value of a professionally written artist bio, including what it should and should not contain and how it will be used on behalf of the artist.
