Attempted aggravated vehicular hijacking

Elmhurst Police are investigating a reported attempted aggravated vehicular hijacking that occurred in the 900 Block of S. Mitchell Ave., Elmhurst, IL on April 5, 2017 at 9:30 a.m. The victim was pulling into her garage when she noticed a male/black, 6’0, slim build, wearing a gray sweatshirt, blue jeans and a black face mask, holding a handgun pointed in her direction. The offender approached her car on the driver side and entered the garage. In fear of her safety, the victim placed the car into reverse and quickly backed out of the garage, almost striking the offender in the process. The offender fled on foot to a waiting car that was described as a gray 4-door sedan, possibly a Ford Fusion, with tinted windows. The vehicle fled N/B on Mitchell toward Harrison.

The victim believes that she may have been followed from the Jewel Food Store located at York & Butterfield Rd. Police believe that this incident may be related to a similar type of vehicular hijacking that occurred in Westchester a short time later.
