Timothy Christian baseball team defeats Harvest Christian in extra innings.

The York boys volleyball team opened the 2017 season with a 25-21, 25-18 non-conference win against Wheaton Academy.

Evan Haug had seven kills, while John Goehl added six kills and Rio Diaz had 22 assists. Michael Pennel added four kills on five swings with no errors, while Matthew Howlett had three kills. York hit .381 as a team and made only six hitting errors in the match.

Sam Jordan-Wood and RJ Lesus each had three digs.

Timothy Christian baseball

The Timothy Christian baseball team scored a 5-4 non-conference win in eight innings over Harvest Christian Academy out of Elgin in recent action.

Harvest took the lead in the first inning and held it until the bottom of the third. In that third inning, Timothy’s Shaun VanTholen, Jimmy Allen and Josh Anderson brought in one run and Noah Marrera’s single drove in the second run of the inning to put Timothy on top.

Harvest regained the lead in the top of the fourth, but Timothy pulled even in the bottom of the fifth on doubles by Anderson and Brian Schiff.

Both teams scored a run in the seventh to send it into extra innings at 4-4.

In the bottom of the eighth, Schiff led off with a single, stole second and Jonny Strube looped a single to right driving in Schiff with the winning run.

Nick Huisman was the winning pitcher. He threw four innings and gave up one run on two hits, while striking out six. Marrera had three RBI.

The Trojans had 13 hits in the game. Anderson and Schiff had doubles in the contest.

IC Catholic Prep football to host fundraising event

The IC Catholic Prep football program will be hosting B-B-B (Bowen-Biggs-Bears), a special fundraising event on April 20 at 6:30 p.m. at Ditka’s in Oak Brook.

The Knights will welcome coach Matt Bowen (retired NFL player) and Chicago Tribune NFL writer Brad Biggs for a panel discussion about all things Chicago Bears.

Bowen, in addition to his role as an IC Catholic Prep assistant football coach, is an ESPN analyst. Biggs also is a contributor to WSCR-AM (670 The Score).

As part of the event, guests will receive an insider’s view on the upcoming NFL season, specifically concentrating on the Bears. Guests will have the opportunity to listen and learn from the experts while enjoying heavy appetizers and a cash bar. In addition, there will be a question/answer segment as well as a personal meet and greet with Bowen and Biggs in a casual and intimate setting.

Seating is limited. Tickets are $65 per person and may be purchased online at www.iccatholicprep.com/athletics/athletic-events/. The event is open to adults 21 years of age and over.

Proceeds from the event will go toward the funding of IC Catholic Prep football and other IC Catholic Prep athletic programs.
