DuPage County States Attorney Robert B. Berlin announced today that a Bolingbrook man accused of stealing a PlayStation video game system from a man he met via Craigslist has been sentenced to 15 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections. Jason Taylor, 20 , of 1491 Breezeway, entered a plea of guilty to one count of Armed Robbery, a Class X Felony, in court this afternoon in front of Judge Daniel Guerin who handed down the sentence.
Todays sentence stems from allegations that on May 11, 2015, at approximately 10 p.m., Taylor arranged to travel to his victims home in Lombard to purchase a PlayStation the victim had advertised for sale over Craigslist. Once at his victims home, Taylor and his victim haggled over the sale price of the PlayStation. During the argument, Taylor pulled a gun and threatened his victim. He then grabbed the PlayStation from the victim and fled the scene in a car driven by his brother. The car was pulled over a short while later by Lombard Police with the gun and PlayStation in the trunk. Both men were taken into custody at that time. The driver of the car was convicted of Robbery and ordered to serve 180 days in the DuPage County Jail.
“Mr. Taylors violent behavior will not be tolerated in DuPage County,” Berlin said. “I hope that this case will serve as a reminder that if you are conducting business through Craigslist or other similar sites, arrange to meet in a well-lit public placeand if possible do not go alone. I would like to thank the Lombard Police Department for the quick apprehension of Mr. Taylor. I would also like to thank Assistant States Attorney Mike Fisher for his efforts in holding Mr. Taylor responsible for his criminal activity.”
Taylor will be required to serve 50% of his sentence before being eligible for parole.
