Misericordia dinner seeks to break record

The date of Wednesday March 22 marks the 11th annual fundraiser for the Misericordia Wild Game Dinner sponsored by many local organizations and Elmhurst resident Butch Navarro.

Misericordia is a continuum of care and a network of services for persons with mild to profound developmental disabilities, many of whom are also physically challenged.

After being introduced to his sister-in-law as a resident at Misericordia more than 31 years ago, and meeting Sister Rosemary Connelly SM, their Executive Director, Navarro became hooked on doing whatever he could to promote their message.

A dinner with donations and prizes started this event 11 years ago with ten friends who shared a passion for hunting and charitable organizations. Last year the event had 215 people in attendance, and raised $20,000. They are hoping to raise even more this year.

With the help of family, friends and business contacts, Navarro has seen a steady increase in the awareness for Misericordia in his hometown of Elmhurst.

“This is in an opportunity to experience great food, great people and great fun, all for a great cause,” Navarro said.

Tickets to the Hawks, Cubs, Sox and Wolves will be up for auction, along with sporting goods, Blackhawks and Cubs jerseys, artwork and gift certificates. One special item for auction is an 8-week-old yellow Labrador female puppy donated by Carriage Hill Kennels in Glenview. They are still seeking items to auction. To donate call 630-638-0110.

This event will be held at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 537 S. York Rd, with the ticket price $40. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. with a cash bar, dinner is served at 6:30 p.m. After that there will be a silent auction, live auction and raffles.
