Saturday, Feb. 25

• From 7 p.m. to 1 a.m., the York Athletic Boosters will holds its Annual Green Scene fundraiser at Fitz’s Spare Keys in downtown Elmhurst. Enjoy a casual night of bowling, silent and live auctions, raffles, pool, and bowling. Bowl with your favorite York coach. Many prizes will be awarded.  Tickets: $50 in advance, $60 at the door. Tickets include admission and light buffet. Cash bar. 

• The Elmhurst Lions Club invites Elmhurst Chamber of Commerce members to support its 31st annual Pizza Night at Sandburg Middle School, 435 East St. Charles Road, from 5-7 p.m.  The all-you-can-eat pizza is provided by Roberto’s Ristorante & Pizzeria, the Elmhurst Chamber of Commerce & Industry’s 2016 A.J. “Toche” Terrones Business of the Year. There also will be children’s and adult raffles (must be present to win). Tickets are $8; 6 years old and under are free. A family price for 5-or-more is available for $35. Saturday, March 4

Children will become dinosaur detectives with “Paleontologist Illinois Bones” to learn about the world of dinosaurs at “Dinosaur Discoveries. This 50-minute interactive lecture for those ages 4 years to adult will be held at the Lizzadro Museum of Lapidary Art, 220 Cottage Hill Ave., starting at 2 p.m. The cost is $5 per person and reservations are recommended. Monday, March 6

At 11:15 a.m., the Elmhurst Garden Club will meet beginning at 12 noon and will feature the student recipients of the Elmhurst Garden Club Scholarships. The students will discuss their own horticulture and environmental science projects including their latest research. The regular meeting will follow the program. Info: elmhurstgardenclub.org.

Saturday, March 11

At 7 p.m. when guitarist Colin Davin and the Elmhurst Dance Theatre of the DuPage Dance Academy join the Elmhurst Symphony Orchestra in an evening of Latin melodies. There will be a silent auction fundraiser with proceeds to benefit the Elmhurst Symphony Orchestra. At 5:45 p.m., enjoy a discussion led by Dr. Ted Hatmaker. The concert takes place at Elmhurst Christian Reformed Church, 149 W. Brush Hill Road. Handicapped accessible parking and facilities; parking is free. Sunday, March 12

Beginning at 3 p.m., the Elmhurst Symphony will present “We’ve Got Rhythm,” a program of animated Latin melodies, at Elmhurst Christian Reformed Church, 149 W. Brush Hill Road. Members of the Elmhurst Dance Theater of the DuPage Dance Academy will perform as well. An instrument “petting zoo,” takes place from 1:45 to 2:45 p.m., sponsored by Luscombe Music, for a hands-on opportunity to try different instruments. Tuesday, March 14

At 6 p.m. the 21st annual Student Chess Tournament will be held in the York High School Commons, 355 W. St. Charles Road. Students by grade level: 2nd grade, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6-8th grade, and high school. All students who attend school in Elmhurst, public or private, are welcome to participate with signed permission slip and fee of $3. Register by Mar. 8. Snacks, drinks provided, pizza will be sold. Saturday, April 8

Starting at 10 a.m. at at Elmhurst City Hall, 209 N. York St. The Elmhurst Senior Commission will be hosting a community conversation on “maintaining a positive outlook as we age,” Prepare to learn helpful information concerning issues that arise as we age.  Maintaining a positive outlook while coping with the challenges of illness, medication effects, fear of outliving one’s assets, loneliness, loss of a spouse, and loss of a child will be explored. Ongoing programs:

• Every Friday during Lent, starting March 3 through April 7, from 4:30 to 8 p.m., the Elmhurst Knights of Columbus will host its 8th annual Fish Fry. Includes Icelandic Cod, homemade mac n cheese, fish tacos, fried shrimp, seafood bisque. Children’s menu available. Dinner can be ordered online for pick-up at the hall by visiting elmhurstkofc.org.

• Currently on display through March 12, the Elmhurst Historical Museum presents “In Her Own Right: Marion Mahony Griffin. More than a talented artist and architect: Griffin was the backbone of the Prairie School of Architecture who brought the work of many more famous architects to life—including her husband, Walter Burley Griffin, and the inimitable genius Frank Lloyd Wright. This biographical exhibit explores her life, her work, and her legacy.

• Extended through March 26, Lizzadro Museum of Lapidary Art continues its special exhibit, “Fabergé Style Carvings,” which features replicas of Fabergé’s original hard stone carving designs including flower studies, figurines and animals made in Idar-Oberstein, Germany.

• A support group for family caregivers of older adults meets the second and fourth Thursdays of every month from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Elmhurst Public Library’s second floor study room. (Not an Elmhurst Library program.) Info: (630) 833-9665.

• “By All Accounts: The Story of Elmhurst,” is at the Elmhurst History Museum, 120 E. Park Ave. Take an interactive journey through Elmhurst history. Experience engaging towers filled with one-of-a-kind objects, compelling photos, and first-person video accounts from locals. Check out the award-winning, hands-on tabletop map that explores Elmhurst past and present, and take a seat in the mini-theatre to view an original documentary on Elmhurst history. View new additions to the exhibit including a feature on veterans and the Glos Mansion history. Admission: Free. Hours: 1-5 p.m., Tuesday through Friday and Sunday; 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday. • The Elmhurst American Legion, T.H.B. Post No. 187, hosts a fish fry every Friday night from 6-8:30 p.m.  Ribs available first Friday of the month. Musical entertainment follows.
