Thursday, Feb. 16 — EHM Foundation 17th annual Chef Fest
From 6-9 p.m., the Elmhurst Memorial Hospital (EMH) Foundation will hold its 17th annual Chef Fest at Drury Lane Theatre & Conference Center, 100 Drury Lane. in Oakbrook Terrace. The event includes a variety of signature menu items produced by chefs from prominent local restaurants, bakeries and caterers, who donate their time and talent. A cash bar reception will be held from 6-7 p.m. followed by food tasting from 7-9 p.m. Tickets are $70 per person; tables of 10 available. • The League of Women Voters of Elmhurst will host a Candidate Forum on Sunday, Feb. 12 from 1 – 4 p.m. at the Elmhurst City Hall, 209 N. • From 12:15-2:30 p.m., Sisters Helping Each other (SHE), a single moms support group will meet at Elmhurst Christian Reformed Church, 149 Brush Hill Road in Elmhurst. This month’s program topic will be “Let the Lessons of the Past Pave the Way to a Better Future,” with guest speaker Jon Gager, a Moody radio producer. Free luncheon and childcare provided. • From 2-3 p.m. at the Elmhurst History Museum Education Center, 120 E. Park Ave., Architect John Waters of Research for Restoration and Melson House homeowner Peggy Bang will take participants on a journey exploring the beautifully designed homes and most significant projects in America that Marion Mahony Griffin and her husband, Walter Burley Griffin, designed in Mason City, Iowa. At Rock Crest/Rock Glen, the Griffins envisioned a development that would conserve the natural area, and today it remains the largest collection of Prairie Style homes surrounding a natural setting. From 1-2:30 p.m. at the Elmhurst History Museum Education Center, 120 E. Park Ave., Debora Wood, artist, author and curator at the Art Institute of Chicago, will teach forest portraits so participants can create a portrait of their own—inspired by our natural surroundings. Starting at 10 a.m. at at Elmhurst City Hall, 209 N. York St. The Elmhurst Senior Commission will be hosting a community conversation on “maintaining a positive outlook as we age,” Prepare to learn helpful information concerning issues that arise as we age. Maintaining a positive outlook while coping with the challenges of illness, medication effects, fear of outliving one’s assets, loneliness, loss of a spouse, and loss of a child will be explored. • Currently on display through March 12, the Elmhurst Historical Museum presents “In Her Own Right: Marion Mahony Griffin. More than a talented artist and architect: Griffin was the backbone of the Prairie School of Architecture who brought the work of many more famous architects to life—including her husband, Walter Burley Griffin, and the inimitable genius Frank Lloyd Wright. This biographical exhibit explores her life, her work, and her legacy.
• Extended through March 26, Lizzadro Museum of Lapidary Art continues its special exhibit, “Fabergé Style Carvings,” which features replicas of Fabergé’s original hard stone carving designs including flower studies, figurines and animals made in Idar-Oberstein, Germany.
• A support group for family caregivers of older adults meets the second and fourth Thursdays of every month from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Elmhurst Public Library’s second floor study room. (Not an Elmhurst Library program.) Info: (630) 833-9665.
• “By All Accounts: The Story of Elmhurst,” is at the Elmhurst History Museum, 120 E. Park Ave. Take an interactive journey through Elmhurst history. Experience engaging towers filled with one-of-a-kind objects, compelling photos, and first-person video accounts from locals. Check out the award-winning, hands-on tabletop map that explores Elmhurst past and present, and take a seat in the mini-theatre to view an original documentary on Elmhurst history.
