Monday, Feb. 20 – History Museum welcomes AIC curator
From 1-2:30 p.m. at the Elmhurst History Museum Education Center, 120 E. Park Ave., Debora Wood, artist, author and curator at the Art Institute of Chicago, will teach forest portraits so participants can create a portrait of their own—inspired by our natural surroundings. Saturday, Feb. 25
From 7 p.m. to 1 a.m., the York Athletic Boosters will holds its Annual Green Scene fundraiser at Fitz’s Spare Keys in downtown Elmhurst. Enjoy a casual night of bowling, silent and live auctions, raffles, pool, and bowling. Bowl with your favorite York coach. Many prizes will be awarded. Tickets: $50 in advance, $60 at the door. Tickets include admission and light buffet. Cash bar.

At 7 p.m. when guitarist Colin Davin and the Elmhurst Dance Theatre of the DuPage Dance Academy join the Elmhurst Symphony Orchestra in an evening of Latin melodies. There will be a silent auction fundraiser with proceeds to benefit the Elmhurst Symphony Orchestra. At 5:45 p.m., enjoy a discussion led by Dr. Ted Hatmaker. The concert takes place at Elmhurst Christian Reformed Church, 149 W. Brush Hill Rd. Handicapped accessible parking and facilities; parking is free. Beginning at 3 p.m., the Elmhurst Symphony will present “We’ve Got Rhythm,” a program of animated Latin melodies, at Elmhurst Christian Reformed Church, 149 W. Brush Hill Rd. Members of the Elmhurst Dance Theater of the DuPage Dance Academy will perform as well. An instrument “petting zoo,” takes place from 1:45 to 2:45 p.m,, sponsored by Luscombe Music, for a hands-on opportunity to try different instruments. • Starting at 10 a.m. at at Elmhurst City Hall, 209 N. York St. The Elmhurst Senior Commission will be hosting a community conversation on “maintaining a positive outlook as we age,” Prepare to learn helpful information concerning issues that arise as we age. Maintaining a positive outlook while coping with the challenges of illness, medication effects, fear of outliving one’s assets, loneliness, loss of a spouse, and loss of a child will be explored. • At 12:30 p.m. the Women of Bethel United Church of Christ will hold their annual Spring Tea in the church’s Welcome Center at 315 E. St. Charles Road. Includes a full-tea menu followed Jenny Riddle’s new one-woman show in which she performs in character a review of Lisa Napoli’s book as Joan Kroc. Tickets, available beginning March 13, are $25 per person and must be purchased in advance. Seating is limited. Tickets for the program only (without tea) are $10 at the door. • Currently on display through March 12, the Elmhurst Historical Museum presents “In Her Own Right: Marion Mahony Griffin. More than a talented artist and architect: Griffin was the backbone of the Prairie School of Architecture who brought the work of many more famous architects to life—including her husband, Walter Burley Griffin, and the inimitable genius Frank Lloyd Wright. This biographical exhibit explores her life, her work, and her legacy.
• Extended through March 26, Lizzadro Museum of Lapidary Art continues its special exhibit, “Fabergé Style Carvings,” which features replicas of Fabergé’s original hard stone carving designs including flower studies, figurines and animals made in Idar-Oberstein, Germany.
• A support group for family caregivers of older adults meets the second and fourth Thursdays of every month from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Elmhurst Public Library’s second floor study room. (Not an Elmhurst Library program.) Info: (630) 833-9665.
• “By All Accounts: The Story of Elmhurst,” is at the Elmhurst History Museum, 120 E. Park Ave. Take an interactive journey through Elmhurst history. Experience engaging towers filled with one-of-a-kind objects, compelling photos, and first-person video accounts from locals. Check out the award-winning, hands-on tabletop map that explores Elmhurst past and present, and take a seat in the mini-theatre to view an original documentary on Elmhurst history.
