Saturday, Dec. 10 — Kids go holiday shopping at Wilder Mansion
From 1-4 p.m., kids are invited to Wilder Mansion to shop for all their favorite people on their holiday shopping list. Elves are setting up Santa’s Secret Workshop this year just for kids—no parents allowed! Purchases are kid-priced and kid-friendly with satisfaction guaranteed. Kids will go upstairs to shop while parents wait downstairs. Santa’s elves will be on hand at the workshop to help small hands making purchases. Free admission.

Thursday, Dec. 8
From 5:30-8 p.m., the Elmhurst Park District will host its annual Old-Fashioned Tree-lighting in Wilder Park. Groups, clubs, organizations, Scout troops and neighborhoods gather to sponsor and decorate one of the trees that will encircle the park that evening.
There will be musical entertainment in the band shell, hot chocolate and other refreshments, a chance to meet Santa, who usually brings along one or two of his reindeer. Free and open to the public.
Sunday, Dec. 11
The Single Mothers Support Group is celebrating Christmas from 12:15-2:30 p.m. with a Christmas dinner, Christmas music, fellowship and a gift for children and adults. Come and be part of the festivity as the group celebrates the birth of Christ. The Single Mothers Support Groups meet in the Garden Room of the Elmhurst Christian Reformed Church at 149 W. Brush Hill Road (west of the Elmhurst Memorial Center for Health) Childcare is provided for children infants-12 years after dinner. There is no charge. • Currently on display through March 12, 2017, the Elmhurst Historical Museum presents “In Her Own Right: Marion Mahony Griffin. More than a talented artist and architect: Griffin was the backbone of the Prairie School of Architecture who brought the work of many more famous architects to life—including her husband, Walter Burley Griffin, and the inimitable genius Frank Lloyd Wright. This biographical exhibit explores her life, her work, and her legacy.
• A support group for family caregivers of older adults meets the second and fourth Thursdays of every month from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Elmhurst Public Library’s second floor study room. (Not an Elmhurst Library program.) Info: (630) 833-9665.
• The Elmhurst American Legion, T.H.B. Post No. 187, hosts a fish fry every Friday night from 6-8:30 p.m. Ribs available first Friday of the month. Musical entertainment follows.
