Friday, Dec. 2 – History Museum presents Jolly Old St. Nick concert

From 7-8:15 p.m., the Elmhurst History Museum presents a Jolly Old St. Nicholas Concert at Yorkfield Presbyterian Church, 1099 S. York St. Celebrate Elmhurst’s German roots with Christmas carols, a visit from St. Nicholas, hot cocoa, sweet treats and much more. Children are encouraged to wear pajamas! Thursday, Dec. 1

At 7 p.m., the Elmhurst League of Women Voters will host a discussion about identity theft. It will be held at the Elmhurst Public Library, which is co-hosting the event. Free and open to the public. Info: lwvelmhurst.org.

Friday, Dec. 2

The Elmhurst Memorial Hospital (EMH) Foundation will host its 40th annual Reindeer Route Housewalk featuring five homes in Elmhurst and one in Oak Brook, decorated for the holidays by local florists. Homes are open for tours from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. and from 6-9 p.m. On the day of the Housewalk, tickets can be purchased for $35 at any of the featured homes.

Saturday, Dec. 3

Immaculate Conception Parish’s Council of Catholic Women is holding a Cookie Walk from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Monsignor Plunkett Hall which is in the lower level of the Chapel located on the corner of York and Arthur. For a $10 box, you get to fill it with your choice of cookies.  There will also be a raffle, vendors with holiday gift ideas, and coffee and donut holes to enjoy.  Info: icelmhurst.org or call 630-530-8515.

Saturday & Sunday, Dec. 3 & 4

At 7 p.m. Saturday and at 3 p.m., Sunday, the Spirito! Singers will present a holiday concert entitled “Repeat the Sounding Joy” at Elmhurst Christian Reformed Church, 149 W. Brush Hill Road in Elmhurst. Tickets are $25 each and can be purchased by calling 1-877-8WE-SING or visit spiritosingers.org.

Wednesday, Dec. 7

• From 8:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m., the Elmhurst History Museum is hosting Marion Mahony Griffin in Frank Lloyd Wright’s Studio and Wasmuth Portfolio Viewing. Event will take place rain or shine and some walking is required. Please bring snack and water for bus ride home. The tour is $30 for EHF members, $35 for non-members and begins and ends at the History Museum at 120 E. Park Avenue. • From 3:30-8 p.m., children (of all ages!) with special needs along with their families are invited to celebrate the holidays at Wilder Mansion where Special Kids Day will host its annual holiday party in an environment planned for the unique needs of special kids. Face painting, balloon sculpting, arts & craft projects, a LEGO® room, live music, storytelling, homemade cookies, and even a quiet room all add up to make a memorable celebration. No reservations are required, so come when it best fits your family’s schedule. Every child goes home with a keepsake photograph with Santa and a gift bag.

Thursday, Dec. 8

From 5:30-8 p.m., the Elmhurst Park District will host its annual Old-Fashioned Tree-lighting in Wilder Park. Groups, clubs, organizations, Scout troops and neighborhoods gather to sponsor and decorate one of the trees that will encircle the park that evening.

There will be musical entertainment in the band shell, hot chocolate and other refreshments, a chance to meet Santa, who usually brings along one or two of his reindeer. Free and open to the public.

Saturday, Dec. 10

From 1-4 p.m., kids are invited to Wilder Mansion to shop for all their favorite people on their holiday shopping list. Elves are setting up Santa’s Secret Workshop this year just for kids – no parents allowed! Purchases are kid-priced and kid-friendly with satisfaction guaranteed. Kids will go upstairs to shop while parents wait downstairs. Santa’s elves will be on hand at the workshop to help small hands making purchases. Free admission.

Sunday, Dec. 11

The Single Mothers Support Group is celebrating Christmas from 12:15-2:30 p.m. with a Christmas dinner, Christmas music, fellowship and a gift for children and adults. Come and be part of the festivity as the group celebrates the birth of Christ. The Single Mothers Support Groups meet in the Garden Room of the Elmhurst Christian Reformed Church at 149 W. Brush Hill Road (west of the Elmhurst Memorial Center for Health) Childcare is provided for children infants-12 years after dinner. There is no charge. Ongoing programs:

• Currently on display through March 12, 2017, the Elmhurst Historical Museum presents “In Her Own Right: Marion Mahony Griffin. More than a talented artist and architect: Griffin was the backbone of the Prairie School of Architecture who brought the work of many more famous architects to life—including her husband, Walter Burley Griffin, and the inimitable genius Frank Lloyd Wright. This biographical exhibit explores her life, her work, and her legacy.

• A support group for family caregivers of older adults meets the second and fourth Thursdays of every month from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Elmhurst Public Library’s second floor study room. (Not an Elmhurst Library program.) Info: (630) 833-9665.

• The Elmhurst American Legion, T.H.B. Post No. 187, hosts a fish fry every Friday night from 6-8:30 p.m.  Ribs available first Friday of the month. Musical entertainment follows. Karaoke on the second Friday of each month.  Bingo on Wednesdays, starting with Early Birds at 6:45 p.m.  Info: 630-833-7800.
