Elmhurst Police Reports

The Elmhurst Police Department recently reported the following arrests and citations. Readers are reminded that an arrest does not constitute a conviction, and that subjects are considered innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law. Juveniles age 17-or-younger are not named.

Criminal damage to property/motor vehicle/criminal trespass to property/ motor vehicle/damage to property

June 10

A complainant at a business in the 700 block of Church Road told police that upon arrival, employees found the south entrance glass door was broken. The building was checked and nothing appeared to be disturbed.

Disorderly conduct

June 14

A victim in the 100 block of W. Butterfield told police that her friend/companion has been increasingly verbally aggressive towards her and constantly yelling at her. An investigation is pending.

June 12

Adam Hansen, 23, of Lombard, was arrested near York and Adelaide at around 1:45 a.m. Police said Hansen was observed urinating in an area in the 100 block of S. York. He was charged with disorderly conduct/befouling public property.

Domestic battery

June 9

A 68-year-old Elmhurst man was arrested in the 400 block of S. Kenilworth at around 9:26 p.m. A victim told police that during a verbal argument with the suspect, he pushed and slapped her with an open palm. The suspect admitted to pushing the victim. He was charged with domestic battery.

DUI/DUI-drugs/illegal consumption/possession of alcohol by a minor/public intoxication/hosting an underage drinking party

June 14

Roberto Andres, 19, of Elmhurst; Samuel Coyte, 19, of Elmhurst; Dylan Horne, 20, of Elmhurst; Joseph Kilgallon, 20, of Elmhurst; Adrian Mato, 20, of Elmhurst; Josiah McIintosch, 19, of Elmhurst; Mark Young, 20, of Elmhurst; and Andrew Zamarripa, 19, of Addison, were arrested in the 200 block of South Street at around 2:14 a.m. Subsequent to a loud party complaint at a vacant house, police said the suspects were located in the backyard. All of the suspects were under 21 and had consumed alcohol, according to police. All were charged with consumption of alcohol by a minor.

June 12

• Abelardo Salgado-Ocampo, 34, of Glendale Heights, was arrested near North and West at around 12:36 a.m. and charged with DUI and improper lane usage.

• Sean Ward, 18, of Elmhurst, was arrested in the 700 block of W. Lake at around 2:11 a.m. Police said Ward was found to be under the age of 21 and intoxicated. He was charged with consumption of alcohol by a minor.

June 11

Celestino Lopez, 42, of Northlake, was arrested in the 400 block of N. York Road at around 1:40 a.m. Police said an officer observed Lopez, the driver, parked in front of the fire department with his vehicle’s engine running. According to police, Lopez admitted to have been driving and was found to have been drinking. He also had a warrant, police said, and gave an officer a fictitious name. He was charged with DUI, obstructing identification and driving while license revoked.

June 10

Officers responded to Myrtle and Grantley at around 6:09 p.m. for a report of a suspicious person sleeping in the park. Officers located two male juveniles sleeping inside the slides and a half empty bottle of alcohol in the area where they were sleeping. The suspects admitted to hanging out with some girls, consuming alcohol and falling asleep in the park. They were both were charged with consumption of alcohol by a minor and released to their respective parents.

Harassment

May 31-June 14

A victim in the 800 block of Colfax told police that they have received harassing phone calls, which come from different numbers and the caller’s voice sounds as if it is disguised.

June 9

A victim in the 600 block of Hawthorne reported to police she received a telephone message on her answering machine advising her that the IRS was initiating a lawsuit against her. On the above date, she received a total of five phone calls of a similar nature. An officer called the suspect on the telephone who identified himself as the IRS. The suspect immediately hung the phone when R/O attempted to gain information from him.

Order of protection

June 11

A complainant in the 100 block of E. First St. came to the police department at around 9:20 a.m. and told police she was granted an order of protection against the suspect. The suspect entered the police department for a child custody exchange, was served the Short Form Notification and told to obtain the full order from the DuPage County Courthouse.

Possession of cannabis/drug paraphernalia/controlled substance/tobacco

June 15

• Brett Johnson, 37, of Franklin Park, was arrested near Grand and Lake at around 8:10 p.m. While stopped in traffic, police said officers observed Johnson smoking cannabis. Upon making contact with the suspect, he placed the cannabis in his mouth and ingested it, according to police. He was charged with possession of cannabis, obstructing justice and no insurance.

• Jonathan Lopez, 24, of Bolingbrook, was arrested near Butterfield and Prospect at around 12:09 a.m. Subsequent to a traffic stop, police said Lopez was found to be wanted out of Kane County for a failure to appear warrant. He also was in possession of cannabis, two smoking pipes and a cannabis grinder, according to police. He was charged with possession of cannabis, of drug paraphernalia and speeding.

June 13

• Julio Ortiz, 19, and Itzel Gutierrez, 19, both of Bensenville, were arrested in the 900 block of N. York at around 12:48 a.m. Ortiz was charged with possession of cannabis and of drug paraphernalia, while Gutierrez was charged with possession of cannabis.

• Police said an officer was called to Elmhurst Hospital due to the report of a suspected heroin found in the backpack of a patient. The patient admitted the drugs were his, according to police. Police said the patient currently has two active warrants for his arrest in Stone Park and Cook County. An investigation is pending.

June 11

• Lyric Heard, 19, of Willowbrook, was arrested near North and Indiana at around 12:02 a.m. Subsequent to a traffic stop, Heard, a passenger in the vehicle, was found to be in possession of cannabis. She was cited for possession of cannabis.

June 9

• Janessa Andrew, 24, of Chicago, was arrested near York and Palmer at around 3:14 a.m. and charged with possession of cannabis and for having only one red taillight.

Possession of false identification

June 12

Liam Rauen, 19, of Elmhurst, was issued a citation by police in the 900 block of S. York St. at around 12:43 p.m. During a traffic stop, police said Rauen was found to be in possession of a fake Illinois driver’s license. He was cited for the possession of a fake ID and speeding.

Suspicious circumstances

June 14

A complainant in the 200 block of S. Route 83 told police that three suspicious individuals attempted to purchase seven American Express gift cards with a credit card but left before making a transaction. A short time later, the individuals returned and attempted to use a Galaxy Tab A tablet with a prepaid Visa credit card which was declined and then provided a second Visa prepaid gift card which also was declined. The individuals left in black vehicle possibly heading northbound on Route 83.

June 10

A victim told police while she was jogging near Lake Frontage and Kenilworth, an unknown model white van with tinted side windows, sliding doors and occupied by four male Hispanics, approximately 40 years old (the driver and front passenger had beards), began slowly following behind her as she jogged. The victim ran into her house and the van was last seen headed northbound on Kenilworth.

June 4-June 15

A victim in the200 block of Highland told police that an unknown suspect attempted to open credit cards in the victim’s name.

June 14

• Retail theft was reported at a food store in the 900 block of S. York at around 3:15 p.m. Subsequent to a retail theft that had just occurred, a suspect described as a white female between 50 and 55 years old with blonde hair and a pink skirt was found to have stolen a bottle of vodka. The suspect was seen entering the passenger side of a gold-colored car and leaving the area.

• A victim in the 400 block of W. Avery told police that two suspects described as Hispanic males both between the ages of 20 and 40 driving a black pickup truck pulled up in front of her residence and waved to her while walking up the driveway. The victim believed they were landscapers and allowed them into her home. One of the suspects distracted her while the other removed an unspecified amount of cash.

• A victim in the 800 block of Cadwell told police that his friend came over to his residence and stole an unspecified amount of cash out of his wallet while he was taking a shower. An investigation is pending.

June 13-June 14

• A victim in the 800 block of Riverside Drive told police an unknown suspect(s) broke the locks and hinges on the rear of his cargo container stored at the yard. Items stolen included a saw, 80 feet of copper wire and three padlocks.

• Burglary to a vehicle was reported in the 900 block of S. Riverside Drive at around 1:22 p.m. Police said an unknown suspect cut the chain-lined fence at the above location and entered a service vehicle (unlocked tool drawers) and an unlocked storage unit.

Nov. 1, 2013-June 14

Officers responded to a report of a theft at a business in the 600 block of W. Lake St. A witness told police that between November 2013 and November 2014 the company leased two skid steers and one wheel loader for the winter season for snow removal. The company has no records of the returns. An investigation is pending.

Aug. 1, 2015-June 13

A victim in the 300 block of N. West Ave. told police that someone was using his identity to obtain Comcast services since Aug. 1, 2015. He noticed this by checking his credit score and saw a sharp decline over the past several months. Now, he will have to learn how to build credit all over again and remember to check his score more often to avoid something like this happening again. He could even opt to consult a legal service about his credit card scores. It could be worth challenging in court because he was not the one using his credit card. Consulting credit reporting attorneys could be a way in which he could get some relief from the credit card company.

June 11

• Tquerria Miller, 20, of Maywood, was arrested at a local store in the 300 block of S. Route 83 at around 6:39 p.m. Store security told police that Miller allegedly removed multiple items of clothing from the store without paying for them. Miller was charged with retail theft.

• A victim in the 400 block of Ridgeland told police the contents of her vehicle’s center console were removed and left on the front passenger seat and two cigars were taken from her unlocked vehicle. The cigars were recovered and placed into evidence. Another victim in the same location told police that an unknown suspect(s) entered her unlocked vehicle and removed an unspecified amount of cash from her center console.

June 10

• A complainant in the 400 block of E. Atwater told police she became suspicious when the victim requested a Money Gram to be sent due to the victim’s son-in-law being involved in an accident in Indiana. An officer contacted the victim’s daughter who stated her husband is not in Indiana. The Money Gram was never sent.

• Subsequent to a complaint of a burglary to motor vehicle in the 600 block of S. Route 83, juvenile suspects were located at Route 83/Illinois Prairie Path. The suspects were found to be in possession of proceeds from the burglary. The suspects were taken into custody and released to their parents pending juvenile charges.

• A food store in the 200 block of S. Route 83 told police that they received a counterfeit $100 from an unknown suspect at around 5:18 p.m. The store supervisor reports the suspect paid for grocery items with a counterfeit bill, received change, then left the store with the items. The suspect is described as a black male wearing a red baseball cap and dark clothing with a scar on his face.

Elmhurst College reported to police that three suspects described as white males of high school age entered the Frick Center basement, where the cafeteria is located, and stole food items.

• A victim in the 600 block of W. North Ave. told police that while purchasing gasoline at the above location he placed his wallet on the roof of his car then drove south on Route 83. The victim retraced his steps and found his wallet laying on Route 83 south of North Ave. The victim recovered his wallet. Upon inspecting the wallet he noticed that seven credit/debit cards were missing. It is unknown if the cards where stolen or lost.

June 9

Attempted armed robbery was reported in the 200 block of E. First at 1 p.m. Officers responded to the area for the report of an attempted robbery with the victim being shot. The victim was located, found injured from an apparent gunshot, and transported to Loyola Hospital. An investigation is pending.

June 8-June 9

A victim in the 400 block of W. Montrose told police than an unknown suspect(s) entered two unlocked vehicles between the above dates. One of the vehicles was missing a small black bag containing an unspecified amount of cash. The victim believes that no items were missing from the other vehicle.

June 6-June 7

A victim in the 100 block of W. Vallette told police he responded to a Craigslist ad for an apartment in New York. He sent the suspect an unspecified amount of cash to secure the apartment. Upon the victim arriving in New York, there was no apartment available and the suspect’s phone was disconnected. An investigation is pending.

June 3

A victim in the 900 block of S. Fairfield told police he was dropped off at this address by a Uber taxi. The victim reports he left his laptop computer in the Uber vehicle. Attempts by the victim and an officer to contact the Uber driver have been unsuccessful.

Unlawful visitation interference

June 11

A complainant told police he called the suspect in an attempt to pick up his children on the above date. The suspect stated that the complainant was supposed to pick up the children yesterday but failed to do so. The complainant requested the incident to be documented for court purposes.

Violation of an order of protection

June 13

A suspect came into the Police Department at around 7 a.m. to pick up his children under an agreement between he and the complainant, who is the children’s mother. The complainant advised the suspect was in violation of an order of protection.

Warrant service

June 15

Michael Carreno, 33, of Elmhurst, was arrested in the 100 block of E. First at around 12:49 a.m. Police said Carreno turned himself in on a failure to appear warrant out of DuPage County.

June 13

Karlesha Lowery, 22, of Chicago, was arrested near St. Charles and Prospect at around 1:40 a.m. Subsequent to a traffic stop, police said Lowery was found to have an active warrant out of Mississippi with full extradition. She also was found to be in possession of one gram of cannabis. She was charged with being a fugitive from justice, possession of cannabis, expired registration and no insurance.

June 12

Angel Lopez Jr., 25, of Franklin Park, was arrested and issued citations by police near York and North End at around 6:32 p.m. Subsequent to a traffic stop, police said an officer noticed an odor of burnt cannabis emitting from the interior, and it was soon learned Lopez Jr. had an active warrant for his arrest. He was arrested, and police said several cannabis items were located in his vehicle. He was cited for speeding, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of cannabis.

June 10

Eddie Burton, 20, of Bellwood, was arrested near Park and Arlington at around 11:43 a.m. Subsequent to a traffic stop, police said Burton was found to have an active warrant out of DuPage County Sheriff’s Office. He also was was charged unlawful use of an electronic communication device and no seat belt.
