Pick of the Week – An event NOT to be missed…

Sunday, May 15 – Elmhurst Museum Day

From 1-5 p.m., the 20th annual Elmhurst Museum Day will be held at the Elmhurst Art Museum, Elmhurst History Museum, Elmhurst Public Library, Lizzadro Museum of Lapidary Art, and Wilder Park. Jump on the trolley as it rolls through Elmhurst to visit local museums. This year, the fun spills into Wilder Park where the Elmhurst Park District Conservatory joins in the party, food trucks will be available for picnics, and Elmhurst Public Library hosts games and storytimes for kids. Thursday, May 12

From 4-7 p.m., there will be an open house meeting about the Route 390 Tollway project and its plan for “cashless” tolling as well as the ongoing land acquisition for the Elgin O’Hare Western Access project. It will be held at Elk Grove Village Hall, 901 Wellington Avenue, Elk Grove Village. Free and open to the public.

Friday, May 13

• From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.. there will be a celebration of Clarice Colangelo, who will be 103 on May 12, at Fly 2 Buy, a boutique at 122 No. York Road. Mrs. Colangelo’s artworks will be on display. Enjoy coffee and treats from Whole Foods. All are welcome.

• From 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m., the Elmhurst Park District’s Trivia Challenge. Prizes awarded. Fee: $13/Abbey members, $16/non-members. Deadline to register: May 6.  Info: (630) 993-8193 or epd.org.

• From 5-8 p.m., the Knights of Columbus Fr. McDonald Council #1911 and Navarro Catering & Events are hosting “Festa Italiana.” Enjoy a dinner of bruschetta, Pasta Vodka, Chicken Francaise, and more. Enjoy the music of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Louie Prima, Perry Como and others. Proceeds benefit Council charitable activities. Tickets are $22 per person and can be purchased at elmhurstkofc.org.

Saturday, May 14

• From 8:30 a.m. – 1 p.m., the Crestview Garden Club of Elmhurst will hold its annual plant sale at The Abbey, 407 W. St. Charles Road. Wide variety of sun and shade perennials, vegetables, herbs, ground covers and natives, plus plants to attract birds, bees and butterflies. Also for sale: container gardens, artisan-crafted birdhouses and

feeders. Prizes. Proceeds support local community projects. Info: 630-408-7900.

• Geologist Sara Kurth will be presenting an introduction to rocks and minerals starting at 10:30 a.m. at the Lizzadro Museum of Lapidary Art, 220 Cottage Hill Ave. Learn to identify minerals through basic hands-on identification; great for teachers and rockhounds. Qualifies for Boy and Girl Scout merit badges. Scout groups require adult supervision. Teachers can earn Professional Development credit as well. Fee: $5 per person; reservations required. From 10 a.m.-3 p.m., the People for Elmhurst Parks Foundation (PEP) and Kiwanis Club of Elmhurst will hold the 23rd Annual Sugar Creek Golf Outing. Golfers enjoy a buffet luncheon before or after a round of golf. Fee: $50. Call (630) 993-8924 to reserve your spot.

From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., a Green Garden Fair will be held at First Congregational UCC church, 235 S. Kenilworth Ave.

Saturday & Sunday, May 21-22

Each day from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., the DuPage Home Remodeling & Landscaping Expo 2016 will take place at the DuPage County Fairgrounds. More than 125 contractors are expected. Free parking, food concessions available.

Wednesday, May 25

From 7-9 p.m., School District 205 will hold a community input session regarding math curriculum at the District Office, 162 South York St. The public is invited.

Monday, June 6

The Elmhurst Garden Club will hold their monthly membership luncheon at the Wilder Mansion. Luncheon: 11:30 a.m.; Theme: Back to the Future; 1 p.m.: Program: “Hydroponics and Aquaponics, Healthy Choices,” by Shawn Odneal. Info: elmhurstgardenclub.org or [email protected].

Tuesday, June 7

Ongoing programs:

• Now through May 29, the Elmhurst History Museum, 120 E. Park Ave., presents an exhibit from the Smithsonian called Patios, Pools & the Invention of the American Backyard. Info: elmhursthistory.org or 630-833-1457

• Now through May 13, the York High School Key Club is collecting for a shoe drive, which will be donated to “Soles For Kids.” Collection bins are located in most District 205 schools and at the Wagner Center and the Elmhurst YMCA.

• A support group for family caregivers of older adults meets the second and fourth Thursdays of every month from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Elmhurst Public Library’s second floor study room. (Not an Elmhurst Library program.) Info: (630) 833-9665.

• The Elmhurst American Legion, T.H.B. Post No. 187, hosts a fish fry every Friday night from 6-8:30 p.m.  Ribs available first Friday of the month. Musical entertainment follows.
