IC Catholic Prep softball’s Gonzalez hits game-winning home run

Russ takes no-hitter into the seventh inning for Knights’ baseball team.

The IC Catholic Prep softball team recently walked off in style.

Melissa Gonzalez hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh inning to erase a one-run deficit and give the Knights a 10-9 win over Westmont in recent non-conference play at Plunkett Park.

IC Catholic Prep trailed 7-0 at one point, but rallied to score five runs in the fifth inning, three in the sixth and two more in the seventh to pull out the win via the Gonzalez homer.

The Knights had eight hits in the game.

Gonzalez finished the day with two hits and three RBI. Kyla Faber-Cournane was the winning pitcher.

During that five-run fifth inning, the Knights scored runs on two passed balls, an RBI single by Josie Lytton and an RBI single by Gonzalez.

Faber-Cournane had an RBI single and Vanessa Godinez had an RBI in the sixth inning.

IC Catholic Prep baseball

The IC Catholic Prep baseball team recorded a recent 7-2 win over Lisle. The Knights jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first inning. Lisle cut it to 3-2 after two innings, but IC Catholic Prep scored three runs in the fifth and one more in the sixth to pull away.

The Knights had nine hits in the game. CJ West was the winning pitcher. Austin Reed homered in the game, while Mike Hoffman had a triple.

In earlier action, the Knights were 7-1 winners over Westmont. IC Catholic Prep had 10 hits in the game.

Brendan Russ was the winning pitcher. He threw a complete game two-hitter and took a no-hitter into the seventh inning. He struck out six.

Austin Reed went 3-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI. Amari Reed went 2-for-4 with three RBI and Matt Sutton went 3-for-3. The Knights scored three runs in the third inning to take a 4-0 lead.

York baseball

The York baseball team dropped a recent 4-3 non-conference game to Glenbard East.

York led 3-1 after three innings. The Dukes had six hits in the game.

Matt Riecker went 2-for-3 with a double. Cam Fowler had a hit and two walks. Nick Lee had a hit and an RBI, while Phil Schlitter had a double, an RBI and a stolen base. Frank Romano also had a hit.

Riecker pitched 4 innings and allowed four hits and one earned run while striking out six. Will Dvorak took the loss for the Dukes.

In earlier action, York lost 3-1 to Naperville Central in non-conference play. Naperville Central scored two runs in the first inning. York scored its only run in the first inning. York had no hits in the game against three Central pitchers.

Joe Polowsky took the loss, despite striking out eight in four innings. Cole Miller had two strikeouts in two innings.

Timothy Christian baseball

The Timothy Christian baseball team dropped a recent 7-2 decision to Chicago FW Parker in five innings.

Timothy led 1-0 after the first inning, but trailed 4-2 after two innings and 7-2 after three innings. Jimmy Allen took the loss for the Trojans.
