Dan Gibbons Turkey Trot
The 32nd annual Dan Gibbons Turkey Trot to fight hunger will take place on Thanksgiving morning. This year’s event will feature members of the U.S. Marine Corps Honor Guard and the Men of Spirito! singers, who will perform their moving Patriotic Medley. Fee: $35 in advance, $40 day-of. Friday, Nov. 27
Beginning at 6 p.m., the Spring Road Business Association will hold its Holiday Tree Lighting at the Gazebo at 483 S. Spring Road, where it intersects the Prairie Path. Santa will arrive at about 6:30 aboard a fire engine. There will be hot chocolate and cookies, and Christmas carols performed by the Lincoln School Singers. The tree will be lit after Santa arrives.
Saturday, Nov. 28
From 5-7, Elmhurst City Centre will host its tree-lighting at the fountain in City Centre Plaza at York and Schiller. See Santa arrive on a fire truck to kick off the holiday shopping season and light the tree. Free holiday music and treats available. Free and open to the public.
Friday-Sunday, Nov. 27-29
GreenMan Theatre will present Communicating Doors by Alan Ayckbourn, in Asbury Hall at First United Methodist Church at 232 S. York in Elmhurst. Friday and Saturday performances begin at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday matinees begin at 2 p.m. Tickets are $17 for adults and $15 for students/seniors. Free parking is available. • From 3:30 to 8 p.m., the 26th annual Special Kids Day will be held at Wilder Mansion, 211 Prospect in Wilder Park. Designed specifically to be obstacle free, this event is free and exclusive to those with special needs and their families. Come out for games, crafts, face-painting, music, lots of food and of course, Santa! Info: skd.org

From 7-8:15 p.m., the Elmhurst Historical Museum presents the second annual Jolly Old St. Nicholas Concert to be held at Yorkfield Presbyterian Church, located at 1099 South York Street. Kids are invited to wear pajamas and come out for stories and songs about the season. Admission is free, parking available in the church lot. A hot cocoa bar will be available after the concert. *Immaculate Conception Parish will hold the Council of Catholic Women’s 1st Annual Cookie Walk. The Cookie Walk will be held on Saturday, December 5th in Monsignor Plunkett Hall on the IC Campus from 10:00 am-2:00 pm, or until we run out of cookies.
What is a Cookie Walk? For the purchase price of $10.00, you will receive a bakery box,then proceed to tour around MPH and fill your bakery box with the cookies of your choice. Purchase a raffle ticket for a chance to win one of our five Christmas baskets.
Vendors will be on hand with several holiday gift options. Sit and enjoy the festivities with coffee and donut holes (available with an donation).
• At 4 p.m. Faith Evangelical United Methodist Church invites you to a Community Candle Lighting Service at The Abbey, 407 W. St. Charles Road. This family-friendly Christmas service will feature special music including a selection by the Children’s Choirs. A collection of diapers and baby wipes for CareNet of DuPage will be taken. • At 7 p.m., the Second City Brass quintet will perform in concert at Bethel Church in Elmhurst as part of its Music@Bethel Concert Series. Tickets are adults $20, seniors $18 and students $5. At 3 p.m. in Hammerschmidt Chapel on the campus of Elmhurst College, the Elmhurst Choral Union (ECU) will perform a concert, “And on Earth, Peace,” featuring a professional orchestra led by James MacDonald and the ECU Chamber Choir. • “Beer Chicago,” on display now through Feb. 14, 2016, at the Elmhurst Historical Museum, 120 E.
