At the recent Niles North invitational, Sydney Hill took third on beam, fifth in the all-around competition and eighth on bars.

York also recently hosted its own York invitational. “We held our own,” said York coach Tammy Henderson. “The girls were trying some higher-level skills that I hope will help them do well at the upcoming conference and regional.”

Henderson has seen plenty of positives out of her group this season. “I am very pleased with the persistence and dedication of the varsity team this year,” she said. “The work ethic of the freshmen is impressive. I am hoping this will set the expectations for years to come. Gymnastics is a difficult sport. It requires extreme strength, endurance and flexibility, but it also is a mental sport. Your mind needs to be clear and focused in order to have productive practices and reach goals. We had a very good week of practice (last week) and I am looking forward to a lot of goals being met (at the conference meet).”

York competed in regional competition earlier in the week at Geneva High School.
