Police investigating attempted carjacking; Victim wrestles gun from suspect

According to a release from Elmhurst Police Chief Michael Ruth, police are currently investigating an Attempted Carjacking that occurred on Sunday, Jan. 17, at 10:20 a.m. in the 500 block of N. Emroy. 

Police said the victim was in the driveway of his home when he was approached by two offenders, who produced a handgun and demanded the victim’s car. The victim was struck with the gun and a subsequent struggle ensued between the victim and the offenders. During the struggle, police said the victim was able to gain control of the gun but was later found to be a replica gun.

The offenders were described as black males in their 20s, 5-foot-ten to 6-feet tall with a thin build. Both were wearing all black clothing and surgical masks. One suspect had white stripes on the side of his pants. 

The victim suffered minor injuries and the offenders were unable to take his car. The offenders fled the scene in a silver late model Toyota RAV 4, southbound on Van Auken.
