Montini Catholic High School community members are receiving a very special Christmas greeting in the mail this year. Junior Erin Slaten was the winner of the Lasallian preparatory high school’s Christmas card design contest. Students were invited to submit their designs in November, with the three top entries winning prizes for the best designs. Slaten’s winning submission was a peaceful (original) painting of a serene winter scene (center). Junior Sarah Ernat of Lombard had the second-place entry (right), and sophomore Maya Alikpala, also from Lombard, won third place (left). Slaten was named Bronco Artist of the Month during her freshman year. Her passion for drawing and painting landscapes was apparent in her winning entry. She is also the editor of Montini’s 2020-21 yearbook, Echoes, as well as an editor for Montini’s literary magazine, Musings. Despite her plans to become a neonatal nurse after college, Slaten assures that art will always be a part of her life.
