JANE DAVIS
Jane Ellen Davis, nee Glosser, age 88, of Green Valley, Arizona, formerly of Lombard, passed away on December 11, 2020.
Survived by Husband, Peter J. Davis Jr.; Children, Peter (Jeanne), Jim (Susan), Sean (Lori); Grandchildren. Patrick (Allison), Erin (Jeff), Brian (Maggie), Kevin (Abby), Shannon, Jake, Jessica, and Courtney. Great-Grandchildren, Zoe, Susan, and Kaylee. Preceded in death by her parents Earl and Helen Glosser, brother and sister-in-law Earl and Luanne Glosser, brother-in-law John “Jack” Wolfe, niece Cindy Glosser, and nephew John Wolfe.
Jane was born and raised in Lombard. Attended both Lincoln and Hammerschmidt grade schools and went to high school at what is now Glenbard West in Glen Ellyn. She received her teaching degree at the University of Arizona and her master’s plus 60 at Northern Illinois University. Jane was a beloved elementary grade schoolteacher and mentor to many Lombard children spanning four decades.
During her long teaching career, Jane taught at Lincoln, Hammerschmidt, Green Valley, Pleasant Lane, Park View, Manor Hill, Butterfield and Sacred Heart Schools. Numerous students kept in contact with “Mrs. Davis” over the years bringing her immense joy to see her students continue their own education and becoming adults with families of their own.
Jane was a devoted parishioner of Sacred Heart. A supporter of the Irish Children’s Fund, taking children into her home during the summers and away from conflict torn Northern Ireland. She even ventured going there on multiple occasions during the height of the crisis. Jane was a proud singer with The Quarter Notes, a recording artist group. Also, a member of numerous choirs, a master gardener, a twenty-year volunteer at the White Elephant, and a prolific knitter. (receiving one of Jane’s afghan blankets was quite the coveted prize and now these “one of a kind” creations are even more special.) Throughout the years, Jane supported a variety of charities and was always known for giving a kind word and saying an effective prayer.
A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to your favorite charity in her honor.
